Hue City on guard against heavy rain in a short period of time causing localized flooding in urban areas

Due to the impact of storm No. 1 (international name WUTIP), on the morning of June 11, Hue city recorded heavy rain in a short period of time in some places, causing flooding on some roads.

The Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Hue City recommends that localities pay attention in the coming days, beware of heavy rain in a short period of time (can reach over 100 mm/3 hours), risk of localized urban flooding in Thuan Hoa, Phu Xuan districts and some places in Phong Dien, Huong Tra, Huong Thuy towns.

Rainfall recorded from 7:00 p.m. on June 10 to 8:00 a.m. on June 11 in Hue city was generally from 40-100 mm, higher in some places such as: Quan Tuong Dai 182 mm, An Tay 173 mm, Standing Office 165 mm, Binh Dien Hydropower 129 mm. Rain peaked from 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on June 11, especially at Quan Tuong Dai station (Phu Xuan district) rainfall reached 96 mm/hour; some stations in Thuan Hoa district reached 70 mm/hour.

According to the forecast from June 11 to 13, Hue city will have moderate rain, heavy rain, and very heavy rain in some places. The total rainfall from 7am on June 11 to 7am on June 13 in localities is generally 70 - 200 mm, with some places over 300 mm. During the day and night of June 13, Hue city will still have rain, with moderate rain and heavy rain in some places. From June 14, the rain will decrease rapidly and end the rainy season.

The Hue City Border Guard Command informed that the locality currently has 1,126 vehicles/8,109 workers (boats 6m or longer). As of 4:00 a.m. on June 11, the number of vehicles anchored at the port was 1,049 vehicles/7,673 workers, 77 vehicles/436 workers were operating at sea, the operating area is from Quang Tri province to Quang Ngai province. The vehicles have grasped the developments of strong winds at sea to proactively prevent and ensure safety for people and property.

The Hue City Border Guard Command has directed units to regularly monitor and grasp the developments of the storm; coordinate with the Hue Maritime Port Authority, the Fisheries Sub-Department, and the Hue Coastal Information Station to increase the time to notify owners of vehicles and captains operating at sea of ​​the location, direction of movement, and developments of the storm; take measures to ensure the safety of vessels at anchorage areas; maintain rescue forces and means ready to respond.

Hue City has sown 25,076 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice, reaching 99% of the plan. Currently, localities have coordinated with the Hue State-owned One Member Limited Liability Irrigation Company to proactively operate pumps to drain some low-lying and flooded areas in Phu Loc, Phu Vang, Quang Dien districts and Phong Dien town.

Currently, the water level of large irrigation and hydroelectric reservoirs such as Ta Trach, Huong Dien, Binh Dien is low, and the reservoirs are operating safely. Hue City has requested departments, branches, units, and localities to proactively monitor forecast information and developments of storm No. 1 and floods; direct and deploy response work according to the "four on-site" motto according to assigned tasks and authority.
