New York City authorities have filed a lawsuit against 17 bus companies, most of them based in Texas, alleging that they illegally transported more than 33,000 migrants from Texas to New York.
According to Fox News, in a lawsuit filed with the New York State Supreme Court, the New York City government is demanding $708 million in compensation from bus companies, which is the cost incurred to provide shelter and services to migrants over the past nearly two years.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, began busing migrants to New York and several Democratic-run cities in 2022 as the state struggled to cope with a surge of illegal migrants crossing the border from Mexico. New York City officials say companies have made millions of dollars by deliberately bringing migrants who need shelter and services to the city.
