Mai Van Kiem (born in 1987, residing in Hai Chau district, Da Nang city) was recently sentenced to life in prison by the provincial People's Court after transporting drugs for hire for 2 million VND as a salary, which is an example.
Through social relationships, Kiem met a young man named "Cu Anh" (identity and background unknown) in Hue City. "Cu Anh" knew that Kiem drove a truck for hire transporting goods on the Lao Bao ( Quang Tri ) - Hue - Da Nang route, so he asked Kiem to transport drugs to Hue and Kiem agreed. Following the instructions of "Cu Anh", Kiem drove the truck to the area behind the Lao Bao Town Trade Center to receive a black plastic bag of drugs from the young man and transported it to Hue.
At about 10:00 a.m. on September 25, 2022, Kiem drove the above vehicle to illegally transport drugs weighing more than 1,178 grams of drugs.
Methamphetamine to receive 2 million VND in wages. When Kiem stopped his car on National Highway 1A in Thuy Phu Commune, Huong Thuy Town, he was caught red-handed by the police. During the investigation, Kiem confessed that previously, on September 22, 2022, he had also transported a package of drugs from Lao Bao Town to this area to receive 1 million VND in wages.
At the trial, defendant Kiem confessed honestly and repented of his actions, hoping to receive the lightest sentence within the penalty range. However, according to the Trial Panel, defendant Kiem's actions were particularly serious, for a small benefit he had transported illegal substances, and now he continued to commit crimes. Therefore, defendant Mai Van Kiem was sentenced to life in prison for the crime of "Illegal transportation of narcotics".
Similarly, Tran Hoang Minh Nhat (born in 1997, residing in Thuan Hoa ward, Hue city) is also awaiting execution after accepting to transport a large amount of drugs from Quang Tri to Hue for 5 million VND.
On the evening of May 23, 2022, Nhat received a phone call from a woman named Le (living in Hue City) asking to be hired to transport drugs to Dong Ha and promised to pay 5 million VND. Nhat agreed, so Le gave him 2 million VND for travel expenses, and the delivery address would be reported later. Following Le's instructions, Nhat hired a taxi to Quang Tri City to pick up the "goods" at a location along National Highway 1A. After picking up the "goods", Nhat quickly got in a taxi back to Hue. However, shortly after the car left, it was checked by the authorities and caught red-handed. Through appraisal, the total amount of drugs Nhat transported weighed more than 1,785 grams of Methamphetamine.
Considering the case as a whole, the Trial Panel assessed the defendant’s behavior as particularly dangerous, and that drugs were the cause and conditions for the emergence of social evils. Those who “spread white death” were dangerous, sophisticated, and reckless criminals. The defendants needed to be permanently removed from society and the defendant Tran Hoang Minh Nhat sentenced to death. After hearing the prosecutor’s representative argue the case and propose the death penalty, in his final words, Nhat burst into tears and begged for a way to live. However, this remorse was now too late.
According to the provincial People's Court, the provincial People's Court has recently tried many cases involving illegal transportation of large quantities of drugs. Defendants transporting small amounts of drugs may face a prison sentence of 15-20 years; in large transport cases, defendants face life imprisonment or the highest penalty is the death penalty. Now, not only are the defendants facing the legal verdict, but their conscience is also tormenting and tormenting them as they witness their old mothers, young wives, and young children... not knowing where to turn. However, it seems that the defendants' remorse and regret is too late.
Through these cases, the Trial Council warns and deters those who disregard the law to illegally buy, sell, transport, store, and use drugs.
