
Author Cao Viet Quynh and his work Dragon Continent
The award results were approved by the executive committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association at a meeting on December 16th.
Cao Viet Quynh adds to her list of achievements.
Cao Viet Quynh was born in 2008 and began writing around the age of 9. Since then, she has attracted attention with many works and an impressive writing ability.
Dragon Continent is a five-volume novel series, which the author shared was inspired by JR. R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, combining elements of fantasy and science fiction.
Upon its release, Dragon Continent received much praise for its novel's blend of fantasy and science fiction elements, combined with a modern and youthful spirit.
At the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City Young Writers Conference, Cao Viet Quynh was the youngest delegate. In 2022, Viet Quynh received the Vietnam National Book Award for her novel series "The Comet Man".
The three-volume novel series "The Comet Man" was also featured at the 20th Bangkok International Copyright Book Fair, the 50th Thailand National Book Fair, the 30th Beijing International Book Fair, and other events. In seminars and workshops, Cao Viet Quynh's name was also mentioned as a prime example in the young literary scene of Ho Chi Minh City.
A positive sign for translated literature.
The 2025 Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association Literary Awards have two categories: awards and commendations. The novel "Listening to the Waves on the Open Sea" by Truong Anh Quoc received the prose award, while the poetry collection "Winds of the Border" by poet Tran Mai Huong received the poetry award. "Vietnamese Children's Literature in the Early 21st Century - Things That Remain in Closed Eyes" by Van Thanh Le received the Literary Criticism Award.
In the Young Writers' category, the award went to Giai Du's work, *Phosphorus*. In the *Tartar Desert* (a novel by Dino Buzzati), translator Huong Chau received the Translation Literature Award.
Besides the award, the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association also presented awards to four works: *The Land of the Imperata Grass* (novel by Nguyen Minh Ngoc), *Days in Paris* (memoir by Nguyen Hoai Nam), *The Sound of Forest Birds and the Fiery Land of Tay Ninh* (epic poem by Chau La Viet), and *When the Cranes Fly South* (novel by Lisa Ridzén, translated by Minh Khoi).
Speaking to Tuoi Tre newspaper, Trinh Bich Ngan, President of the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association, said that the executive committee had worked very carefully to select the works and authors worthy of receiving the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association's literary awards and prizes in 2025.
The awards and prizes will be presented at the closing ceremony, awards presentation, and new member induction of the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association on January 30, 2026.
