The United Nations representative in Vietnam said that it is necessary to target innovators and young people to promote creativity, which is a core tool to turn Vietnam into a regional innovation center.
The information was given by Ms. Paluline Tamesis, United Nations Representative in Vietnam, at the ceremony to respond to the World Creativity and Innovation Day 2024, organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology on the morning of April 19.
She assessed that Vietnam has made outstanding progress and potential, through the Global Innovation Index (GII) ranking. "This progress is central to helping Vietnam achieve its vision and development goals," she said.

Citing the national voluntary assessment report (SDGS), she said that Vietnam has achieved 5/17 sustainable development goals. To promote the implementation of other goals, she suggested that the process needs to be oriented towards inspirational innovation such as green technology, technology. Accordingly, innovation does not only stop at inspiring through technology, but also includes ideas for green technology solutions, technology to reduce carbon emissions to help improve life.
She gave an example that innovation does not come naturally but comes from curiosity, encouragement and inspiration from the living environment, including infrastructure and legal framework. It is necessary to empower young people in the STEM field. "Innovation is not limited to scientists but also to innovators, young people and ethnic minorities," she said, hoping that promoting creativity and innovation in young people will be a core tool to turn Vietnam into a regional innovation hub.
In his opening speech, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat informed that Vietnam is transforming its growth model from one based on capital and labor to one based on science, technology, and innovation.

In the coming period, the Minister hopes that Vietnam's innovation capacity will continue to be improved, contributing directly to increasing labor productivity and product quality, protecting the environment and sustainable development.
He outlined three tasks: first, raising awareness of the role of creativity and innovation in socio-economic development, building a sustainable society, and promoting and joining hands to promote innovation activities. Second , promoting the development of a national innovation system with close links between the state sector; production, business and investment sectors; research, education and training sectors and society. Third, launching a series of innovation activities in 2024.
This is the third year that the Ministry of Science and Technology has organized the Ceremony to respond to the World Creativity and Innovation Day with the aim of creating a ripple effect, influencing the awareness of agencies, organizations, and communities, and joining hands to promote innovation activities.

Within the framework of the Response Ceremony, a scientific workshop on innovation and creative startups, which outlined the current state of innovation in enterprises in Vietnam, policies and orientations for developing the national startup ecosystem and tools for measuring industry-level innovation.
