At 11:30 a.m., Binh Tay market - the largest wholesale market for confectionery and jams in Ho Chi Minh City - was crowded with people jostling to buy confectionery for the upcoming Lunar New Year 2025.
"There's nothing left to sell!"
The most famous candy stall in this market is the candy stall of Ms. Ung Thi Lien (71 years old). This afternoon, Ms. Lien started to gradually clean up the candy and said that she had no more goods to sell wholesale, mainly retail.

Trend 24 special: Bustling Tet atmosphere across the country
"Today is the 25th of Tet, there's nothing left to sell. Now, even if my regular customers in the West order, there's nothing left to sell. We mainly sell retail here, and when we run out, we move there. On the 27th of December, we close the stall and take a break for Tet," the owner confided.
Almost sold out, however, Ms. Lien was not too happy or excited because the owner said that this year, due to the difficult economic situation, she did not dare to import much goods, a decrease of nearly 50% compared to last year.
Sold out early, she also has no more goods to wholesale when customers need. However, for the owner, the lack of candy to sell is also a good sign, when business is going exactly as planned.
"It's a joy not to have unsold candy! If I can't sell all the remaining candy, I'll give it to children in hospitals or give it to charity during Tet because I have connections. That way, I can spread love and do something meaningful during Tet," the owner added.
Ms. Lien said there was no more stock to sell wholesale.

In a similar situation to Ms. Lien, seeing customers coming to the market to buy candy and cookies crowded together, but the seller at a nearby candy stall was not too happy.
According to this person, this year wholesale trade is difficult, no one dares to import a lot of goods, only importing enough to sell out. "The trend is to close the stall, stop selling to celebrate Tet. Then continue to come back. I have been attached to this market for decades, happy because the job brings the taste of Tet to everyone," she added.
"Go to Binh Tay market to feel the Tet atmosphere"
Among the crowd of people visiting the candy stalls to buy for Tet, Ms. Le Thi Mai (56 years old, living in District 6) said that she visits Binh Tay market almost every year to shop for Tet. On the way, she will go to the candy and jam stalls here to buy.
