The story of "going against the tide" about the traditional values of the Mid-Autumn Festival
Nowadays, the Mid-Autumn Festival customs have changed a lot to be more suitable and convenient with modern life. Lion dance performances, lantern processions, folk games and moon cake making competitions are widely held at entertainment venues, attracting the participation of hundreds and thousands of people. Lanterns, masks, candies, fruits, etc. can be easily bought anywhere, no longer a "luxury" like in difficult times. Although the way to celebrate the full moon night in August may be different, the spirit and meaning of the holiday is still preserved by many families in a new way.
No matter how many years pass, the joy of each Mid-Autumn Festival remains intact.
"In recent years, my husband and I decided to spend a whole day off, taking our children to personally choose each moon cake, each grapefruit, etc. to display on the fruit tray. Adults carved watermelons, children created hedgehogs and grapefruit dogs from fruits. While busy preparing, my husband and I reminisced about our childhood memories and told our children about the Children's Day of the past" - Ms. Tue Chi (Artist, 29 years old, in Ho Chi Minh City) excitedly said.
Sharing the same view of "living slowly" during the Mid-Autumn Festival, Mr. Tuan Kiet's family (a 37-year-old car garage owner in Hanoi ) chose a different way: making Mid-Autumn Festival toys with their children. He confided : "To be honest, going out to buy toys for children is very quick, it takes only a second. But like that, children do not feel the meaning of the items and the value of the traditional holiday. During the Mid-Autumn Festival in recent years, my neighbors and I changed our "strategy": gathering at one person's house, cutting and pasting for hours, making star lanterns, molding clay figurines, and coloring masks with our children."
"Only by talking to children can we see that they are very curious and interested in learning about national customs and culture. It's just a matter of whether parents take the time to share with their children or not" - Mr. Tuan Kiet happily "summarized".
…originated from simple yet heartwarming reasons
As can be seen, Mid-Autumn Festival is an ideal occasion to shorten the gap between generations, bringing parents and children closer together. Children have the opportunity to learn from adults about the meaning of the festival, and feel the love and care from their families. The moments when families gather together, sharing joy and laughter, not only create beautiful memories but also strengthen family ties.
Mid-Autumn Festival is an ideal occasion to shorten the gap between generations, bringing parents and children closer together.
On the other hand, through organizing and participating in Mid-Autumn Festival activities with children, adults also have the opportunity to "relive" nostalgic childhood memories. Ms. Tu Anh (32 years old, Fashion Business in Hanoi) confided: "Growing up in a difficult period, the occasion of breaking the moonlit night party in the past in my mind is simple images: neighbors gathering in one place, children fighting for a piece of moon cake, busily making pomelo dogs and playing rock-paper-scissors to see who gets a swan basket gift. At that time, everything was not complete but there was never a lack of laughter on this Children's Day. The more I am exposed to technology, to the modern social work cycle, the more I miss a time long gone by. The "child" in me longs to relive those moments and also wants my children's childhood to be filled with such beautiful memories".
The stories of families like Ms. Tue Chi, Mr. Tuan Kiet, or Ms. Tu Anh above are not rare. A survey conducted by Kinh Do Mondelez in collaboration with Nielsen IQ also showed similar results: 94% of Vietnamese people want people to pay more attention to the Mid-Autumn Festival to preserve the beautiful cultural features of the Vietnamese people.
It can be seen that traditional values are always the core of society. Although modern life is busy, the concept of time is swept away, the moments of reunion on each festival such as Mid-Autumn Festival and Lunar New Year are always places to nurture the soul in each person. Children's childhood passes very quickly and Children's Day like the full moon night of August only comes once a year. Spending a whole day together on this occasion will certainly help parents have more time, helping future children understand more about the beauty and customs of traditional holidays, thereby continuing and preserving the beautiful Mid-Autumn Festival for future generations.
