Cuu Long University: 25 years of pioneering and aspiration to reach international level

From the first private university…

Cuu Long University was established on January 5, 2000 under Decision No. 04/2000/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister . The birth of a private university in the Mekong Delta region is a pioneering and challenging step. Starting with 12 training majors, the first course only enrolled a few hundred students and the facilities were limited. The staff and lecturers were only about 30 people, most of whom were young lecturers. With the will, belief to overcome all and the consensus of the founding teachers, Cuu Long University has gradually affirmed its pioneering role in training quality human resources for the region and the whole country.

The school has made continuous efforts, achieved many successes and made strong changes. Currently, the school enrolls 38 university majors with over 90 multi-disciplinary majors, from economics , engineering, medicine - pharmacy, social sciences - humanities, information technology, languages ​​to high-tech agriculture. The school has 11 master's training majors and 3 first-level specialized training majors, improving research capacity and postgraduate training. The staff and lecturers have over 1,217 people with academic titles and degrees, including over 70 professors, associate professors, 241 doctors, 447 masters, and nearly 300 doctors of various specialties.

The total training scale is nearly 40,000 students, including nearly 1,500 postgraduate students. The school has awarded degrees to more than 38,000 bachelors, engineers and nearly 1,200 masters, many of whom are taking on important leadership roles, experts, entrepreneurs, and researchers at home and abroad. Modern facilities include more than 100 classrooms, 52 laboratories, 6 practice workshops, an electronic library of more than 200,000 books, a dormitory and a football field with synchronous and spacious investment on an area of ​​23.6 hectares.

The school pays great attention to academics, scientific research associated with practical applications, has more than 350 research topics at all levels, published over 200 scientific articles at home and abroad. Many research projects have applications in the fields of agriculture and engineering serving the education sector of Vinh Long province and the Mekong Delta region. The school has more than 30 clubs, teams, and student groups and more than 3,500 students receive scholarships and tuition fee exemptions with an amount of over 20 billion VND. The school completed the second cycle of educational institution quality accreditation, with 22 training programs accredited according to regulations and aiming for international accreditation, participating in regional education rankings.

To the aspiration to reach international level

With its contributions to training, scientific research and community service, Cuu Long University was honored to be awarded the Second Class Labor Medal by the Party and State. For many consecutive years, the University has received Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training, Emulation Flags and Certificates of Merit from the People's Committee of Vinh Long province, many international and regional awards from Laos, Cambodia, Korea, Japan and dozens of awards for student scientific research, technical creativity and innovation in education.

Meritorious teacher, Associate Professor, Dr. Luong Minh Cu, Party Committee Secretary, Principal of the school emphasized that in the era of globalization, education cannot stop at national borders. Deeply aware of that, Cuu Long University has proactively implemented many international cooperation programs: receiving nearly 700 international students from Laos, Cambodia, Japan, Korea, India, Sri Lanka, Taiwan (China) to study, contributing to promoting the image, culture and knowledge of Vietnam to the world.

Successfully deployed 2 Vietnamese language training centers for foreigners in the Lao People's Democratic Republic, contributing to the cause of cooperation, friendship and development of high-quality human resources for the neighboring country. Signed cooperation agreements with more than 30 international partners on academic exchange, dual degree training, technology transfer and scientific research. More than 150 lecturers and managers participated in training, short-term study, and seminars in developed countries such as Japan, Korea, Germany, the US, and Thailand, demonstrating positive contributions to international training cooperation.

Cuu Long University always advocates that training must be linked to practice. More than 150 domestic and foreign enterprises, companies, and partners have signed cooperation agreements on training, internships, and recruitment with the school through the Center for Startup Support, Center for International Study Abroad and Employment. Over 90% of graduates have jobs, many majors reaching over 95%.

Entering a new stage of development, Associate Professor, Dr. Luong Minh Cu affirmed that Cuu Long University will continue to improve the quality of training, scientific research and social service. The school strives to upgrade to Cuu Long University with 5 member schools: International University, University of Health, University of Humanities, University of Engineering and Technology, University of Economic Sciences.
