(CPV) - On the morning of November 16, attending the 60th Anniversary Ceremony, recognizing and appreciating the achievements of the Forestry University, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh requested that the University should be the leading training, scientific research and technology transfer institution in Vietnam and on par with the region in the forestry field. The Deputy Prime Minister respectfully sent his warm regards and congratulations to the teachers on the occasion of Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, our country has up to 2/3 of its land area being hills and mountains with majestic mountain ranges and plateaus; it is home to many organisms, tropical and subtropical climates; it is one of the 12 biodiversity centers of the world , very rich in rare and precious genetic resources.
In Vietnam, forests play an extremely important role in the development and protection of the country: Forests are living spaces, where the good customs and practices of 54 ethnic groups are formed, promoted and preserved. Forests are the source of livelihood for people and communities living near forests. Timber and non-timber forest products make important contributions to the socio -economic development of the country. Forests protect the ecological environment and living environment. Today, that function becomes even more important when global environmental and ecological issues are seriously threatened.
In addition, forests protect the soil, prevent erosion; prevent flash floods, floods, and coastal and riverbank landslides. Forests play an important role in protecting the country and ensuring national security and defense, when "forests feed the army and surround the enemy".

In particular, special attention is paid to training human resources for the forestry sector. Exactly 60 years ago, on August 19, 1964, the Government Council (now the Government) issued Decision No. 127/CP to establish the Forestry University.
In the context of the strong development of the industrial revolution, artificial intelligence technology, in response to the requirement of building a green, circular, modern, efficient, highly competitive economy and in response to the negative impacts of climate change, natural disasters, storms, floods, resource and environmental degradation, the Deputy Prime Minister said that this places on the shoulders of the Forestry University a noble mission and a determination to innovate.
To keep up with the trend of the times, meet the expectations of the Party and the State, and make worthy contributions to the development of the country in the era of national development, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh requested the School to continuously improve the quality of training and scientific research, closely linked to practice. Graduates must be quality forestry experts, with both solid knowledge and foundation, practical skills, diverse soft skills and the ability to work in a practical environment.
The school needs to equip students with the necessary knowledge to be ready to enter the challenging labor market and be able to meet the strict requirements of employers. The quality of the school's training must be tested by the attractiveness of the graduating students, entering the world when employers highly appreciate and eagerly seek out students of the Forestry University.
The school prioritizes investment in developing key and cutting-edge scientific research directions to meet the requirements of forest protection and development, wood processing industry and non-timber forest products, in accordance with regional and world quality standards.

Believing that the university's scientific research potential is vast, attractive, and essential, especially when climate change is becoming increasingly extreme and has become a threat not only to forests but also to the entire planet, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the university needs to research climate change and sustainable adaptation; conserve biodiversity and sustainable development; research and find prosperous and friendly livelihoods for people under the forest canopy.
Along with that, developing 4.0 generation forestry technology and forest product processing; research on forestry economics, forest resource management policies associated with the increasingly developing carbon market; research on services, ecosystems and non-timber values of forests; research on the application of information technology and artificial intelligence in forest development and protection.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh requested the Forestry University to build a team of lecturers and scientific researchers to meet practical requirements; innovate curriculum, teaching and learning methods, improve training quality, keep up with the requirements of practical life and the development of science and technology. The university's teaching staff must be passionate people, understand and love the forest more than anyone else, constantly innovate and always make every effort to guide and impart knowledge and great love to students.
The Deputy Prime Minister also noted the need to innovate university governance, promote digital transformation, enhance autonomy, social responsibility and creativity of units; strengthen public-private partnership in training, scientific research and technology transfer; and training must be linked to the practical needs of state management and production in the forestry sector.
International cooperation is an important factor to help the Forestry University expand its scale, improve the quality of training and scientific research, access advanced scientific achievements of mankind, to catch up with, go along with and surpass university training institutions in the region and internationally. The school needs to promote international cooperation, regularly update and grasp research and training trends in the forestry sector; make the most of the scientific, technological and financial support of development partners and international organizations in research and teaching.
Professor, Dr. Pham Van Dien, Principal of the Forestry University, said that when the school was first established, it only had 4 majors for 475 students. Now, it has become a multi-major, multi-field training school, a leading training and scientific research facility in forestry, with a scale of more than 12,000 students.
The school has trained more than 50,000 highly qualified scientific, technical and managerial staff, over 6,000 masters and nearly 150 doctors for the country. The staff trained by the school is a high-quality human resource for the forestry industry nationwide, contributing to the country's sustainable development. The school also trains more than 10,000 high school students, including more than 2,500 ethnic minority students.
The school always focuses on scientific research, associated with training tasks. The University of Forestry has 25 inventions, intellectual property recognized in the forestry field; over 100 national and international science awards.
