Students line up to help themselves to rice, soup, and stir-fried dishes.
At 10:35 AM on October 19th, students at Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, after washing their hands, lined up at the table to receive their meal portions and served themselves rice, stir-fried vegetables, and soup to their liking. A caregiver then distributed steamed dumplings to the children. A plate of banana blossoms was also placed on the table for dessert. After being introduced to the dishes, the students happily enjoyed their meal together.
Today's lunch was piping hot, just like every other day. But today, mealtime at Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School was a little different because of the presence of some other guests – the students' parents.
After observing how the children lined up to get their food, the parents also lined up, took their lunch portions like their children, and sat in the classroom, eating and enjoying their lunch.
Many parents find it an interesting experience to see how their children eat lunch at school.
After finishing her lunch and praising how delicious and satisfying it was, Ms. Cúc, the parent of Ngọc and Long, two students in class 3/3, told a reporter from Thanh Niên Newspaper that this was the first time she had come to school to study and have lunch with her children. She was able to imagine what her children's daily lessons and meals were like at school and understood the hard work of the teachers and caregivers.
"One great thing about the school is that each child gets to take as much food as they want, ensuring that the portions are neither too little nor too much, and are just right for each child's appetite. The number of servings is sufficient, palatable, and provides adequate nutrition for the children," Ms. Cúc commented.
Parents lined up to get their meals and happily ate together with their children.
The activity of parents having lunch with their children at school was part of the "Open House" event, which took place today, October 19, 2023, at Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City. Parents from all classes were informed about the event's plan and registered for their participation by sending registration forms to the school a few days ago. Not only did parents get to eat lunch with their children in class, but they also had the opportunity to observe their children's lessons to see how they were learning at school.
Ms. Tran Thi Thu Huong, the school principal, said that this event aims to effectively implement open lessons, moving towards a happy school environment; and at the same time, publicly showcase the quality of education to parents and the community.
Principal Tran Thi Thu Huong (wearing a yellow ao dai) also came to the classroom to see how the students were eating their school lunch.
Today's lunch includes white rice, taro soup, steamed dumplings, stir-fried vegetables, and a banana for dessert.
At the same time, according to the school principal, the event provides an opportunity for parents to visit the school and classrooms, and attend actual lessons with their children. From this, parents gain a better understanding of the teaching and education methods, the organization of the school's lunch program, and the quality of the meals. This strengthens the bond between the school and families, effectively promoting the socialization of education. Immediately after observing the lessons and having lunch with their children, parents will record their comments and suggestions for the school and send them via an online link so that the school can receive and consider them promptly.
As of today, we have received many comments from parents. Many parents commented that the school and classrooms are clean and beautiful, and the meals are delicious and nutritious. Some parents also said that the school lunch program includes all food groups, and the children eat well and finish their portions...
