OTT TV is booming
In recent times, in Vietnam, pay TV services in general and OTT TV services (Internet TV) in particular have served the information and entertainment needs of the people well. In particular, the OTT TV service market is becoming increasingly vibrant. This type of application is currently competing fiercely, with hundreds of domestic and foreign applications, from official applications to pirated applications.
Statistics show that, of the 35 businesses licensed to provide paid services, up to 20 businesses provide Internet TV services. This service helps meet the trend of watching TV on mobile devices and the trend of personalizing user content.
Statistics show that there have been a total of over 30 million downloads and registrations for TV viewing applications by domestic businesses. Revenue from OTT TV services has increased rapidly in recent times. However, the revenue ratio between OTT TV of about 120 billion VND and traditional TV of nearly 8,600 billion VND is still a huge gap.
Along with the growth in household demand, Vietnam's pay TV service revenue is stable at 0.3 billion USD in the 2016-2020 period, and is forecast to stabilize at 0.4 billion USD in the 2025-2030 period.
A representative of MobiFone network said: “ Internet television (OTT TV, OTT television) has a very hot growth rate in both subscribers and revenue, in which revenue increased 5 times in the period from 2017-2019. According to official statistics, there are currently 20 enterprises providing OTT television services nationwide. However, the actual number is much higher because the market also has the participation of many cross-border OTT service providers such as Netflix, Tencent, Baidu... ”.
In Vietnam, OTT television is mainly provided for free with basic content packages, charged for premium content packages, but the main source of revenue comes from advertising. Although the market is so vibrant, many Vietnamese viewers turn to illegal, cross-border OTT applications, making it quite difficult for Vietnamese businesses to gain a foothold in the market.
With the development of online video applications, the pay TV sector entered a period of decline; global pay TV revenue reached 211 billion USD in 2016, decreased to 200 billion USD in 2020, forecasted to be 194 billion USD in 2025 and only 184 billion USD in 2030.
This shows the vitality and competitiveness of OTT television. Although the current revenue of this type of television is still insignificant compared to cable television, the room for future development is huge.
ClipTV is actively dominating the market

In particular, the use of AI in user personalization (smart content suggestions) in the application will ensure "Serving content according to your 'taste'". Instead of spending time choosing the content you like, the smart suggestion feature allows inferring and analyzing the viewer's preferences, thereby providing the most suitable content for each customer's individual "taste".
