Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan received the French Medal of Arts and Literature

Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan - President of the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association (VFDA), former Director of the Cinema Department, was recently awarded the Medal of Arts and Literature by Ms. Rachida Dati - Minister of Culture of France, within the framework of President Emmanuel Macron's recent state visit to Vietnam.

This is a worthy recognition of Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan's lasting contributions and dedication to the country's cinema as well as her efforts to strengthen international cooperation in the 7th art.

Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan's contributions span many fields, including many events associated with France. At the 78th Cannes Film Festival held from May 13 to 24, VFDA and the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism co-organized the workshop "Vietnam - Dynamic Asian Market and New Destination for International Film Crews". The event attracted the attention of foreign filmmakers, thereby hoping to introduce more of the "dual potential" of Vietnamese cinema as a unique and novel context, while also possessing a vibrant developing market. In addition, with the desire to further introduce the Vietnamese voice to the world , Dr. Lan is also the founder of the annual Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) with the 3rd season scheduled to take place from June 29 to July 5 with many programs co-organized with the French Embassy and the French National Cinema Center.

Not stopping there, in order to discover and introduce new voices of young filmmakers, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan accepted to be the Chairman of the Jury of the Vietnamese 2025 short film competition launched by Thanh Nien Newspaper. The competition has entered its second season, expected to last from May 23 to July 7, the winning works will have the opportunity to be screened at the 4th DANAFF. Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan hopes that Vietnamese will gradually become a quality short film festival, with enough potential to go international.

The Order of Arts and Letters is one of the noble awards of the French state, to honor individuals with outstanding contributions to the fields of culture and arts.
