(QNO) - After a period of surveying and collecting opinions from local residents, from May 15, 2023, Phan Chau Trinh Street in Hoi An City officially became a "Street for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles".
This process will be implemented in 2 phases. In the first phase (from May 15), the walking street will take place every day of the week. The implementation time is from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the summer and 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the winter. The operating space is from the intersection of Nguyen Hue - Phan Chau Trinh Street to the intersection of Cao Hong Lanh - Phan Chau Trinh Street.
Phase 2 is expected to be implemented from January 1, 2024. Operating hours are from 3:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the summer and from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the winter, all days of the week. Operating space is from the intersection of Hoang Dieu - Phan Chau Trinh Street to the intersection of Cao Hong Lanh - Phan Chau Trinh Street.
Along with the implementation of the walking street, many cultural experiences and art performances for residents and tourists will also be held regularly, such as Hat Boi at Van Chi Minh Huong, and music performances by the Cung Dan Xua band at 49 Phan Chau Trinh Street.
There are also tea ceremony spaces, Do paper stamping, lion head painting, Ong Dia mask painting at Hoi An communal house; folk games at Phap Bao lake; basketball exchanges, Chinese language teaching at Ngu Bang Assembly Hall... to bring many diverse and attractive experiences.
In particular, the city will arrange free parking lots for residents in the area, parking lots for tourists, tourist bus transfer points, and improve the public toilet system, urban order, environmental sanitation, etc.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh - Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee shared that the project to expand the "Street for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles" on Phan Chau Trinh Street is expected to create an additional space for cultural, tourism and culinary experiences, contributing to ensuring security and order, limiting traffic, dust and noise in the central area, aiming to build the image of Hoi An - a green, safe and friendly tourist destination in the eyes of the people and tourists.
Since 2004, the project “Street for pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles” has been organized in Hoi An ancient town. After nearly 20 years of implementation, the project has not only had a profound impact, contributing to improving the lives of people in the area but also become a unique cultural - tourism product, providing visitors with a safe and quiet space to enjoy the scenery and explore the history, culture and people of Hoi An.
