The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just sent a document to the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department regarding traffic organization adjustment on Le Thanh Ton Street (from Dong Khoi Street to Pasteur Street, Saigon Ward).
From July 26, passenger cars with more than 16 seats and trucks will be banned from traveling from 6am to 8pm from Monday to Friday; semi-trailers will be completely banned on this route.
At the same time, the authorities stopped the previous ban on stopping and parking taxis on the above road section, and taxis are allowed to travel normally.
Previously, since December 2016, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction (formerly the Department of Transport) announced a ban on taxis, passenger cars and trucks from 6am to 8pm on Le Thanh Ton Street.
Through monitoring, the unit found that traffic in front of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee was stable, with no traffic congestion recorded. However, when taxis are banned while other technology cars still enter and exit, there is a lack of fairness between types of transport, creating inadequacies.
In order to adjust the above situation and at the same time rearrange traffic flow appropriately, the Department of Construction has adjusted the traffic organization plan accordingly.
The Road Traffic Infrastructure Management Center was required to install a new traffic signal system in the area and coordinate with authorities to ensure that information is fully and clearly communicated to the public.
After implementation, the units will monitor the actual traffic situation and report the results after 30 days to the Department of Construction to have a basis for considering further adjustments if necessary.
Currently, Le Thanh Ton Street (from Dong Khoi to Pasteur) is an important area, passing through the headquarters of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and connecting to Nguyen Hue walking street, so traffic is high and events often take place.
