According to Engadget , on December 12th, a ransomware group called Rhysida claimed to have obtained 1.67 TB of data (over 1.3 million files) from Sony's Insomniac Games developer, and bluntly demanded a ransom of $2 million. Now, the one-week deadline for Insomniac Games to pay Rhysida has passed, and the group has carried out its threat to reveal the stolen information.
Insomniac Games' data for the upcoming Wolverine game was leaked.
The data stolen by the hackers included internal personnel documents, screenshots of employee Slack conversations, and most notably, the unreleased Wolverine game.
The game files contain detailed information about the game's design, characters, and actual screenshots. Additionally, a publishing agreement has been signed between Sony and Marvel, outlining three future X-Men games: Wolverine , with the other two yet to be named. There's also information that Sony must release Wolverine before September 1, 2025, while the remaining games will be released in late 2029 and 2033, respectively.
Initially, when demanding a ransom from Insomniac Games, the group also held an auction for the company's data, and it appears some of that data was purchased. The ransomware group claimed that all unsold data had been released, but only 98% of the stolen information was made public.
