On July 7, in his first interview with the press after being appointed as the new Russian Ambassador to Indonesia, Sergei Tolchenov said that Moscow positively assessed Jakarta's refusal to sign the final document at the peace conference on Ukraine in Bürgenstock, Switzerland.

The Jakarta government did not send any official representatives to the conference, instead the Indonesian ambassador attended the event. Jakarta refused to sign the conference's joint communique due to the absence of both sides in the conflict.
According to Antara News , “Indonesia believes that the joint communique will be more effective if it is prepared in a comprehensive and balanced manner. The decision must be made through agreements and negotiations with the participation of all conflicting parties,” said an Indonesian representative attending the conference.
The representative added that this is Jakarta's position regarding the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine that other countries are seeking through a peace conference.
According to the new Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Tolchenov, Indonesia understands that the main task now is to find a sustainable solution to the crisis under the conditions that the Russian side has repeatedly voiced.
According to Sputnik, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov said that Moscow considers Jakarta a strong candidate to join BRICS. However, Mr. Tolchenov also said that Indonesia has decided not to join the organization at the BRICS Summit in 2023.
Indonesia will only be able to attend the BRICS+ summit, which is scheduled to be held as part of the Kazan summit in 2024. Tolchenov added that Russia has not sent any invitations to attend the summit.
“If a similar invitation is sent, we expect a response from Indonesia,” Ambassador Tolchenov stressed.
