On June 3, in Bu Dang district, Binh Phuoc province, the delegation of the Vietnam Journalists Association led by Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Tran Trong Dung carried out many meaningful activities in response to the "Tet tree planting festival to forever remember Uncle Ho"; World Environment Day June 5, as well as to celebrate Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day June 21.
Changing people's perceptions
In the semi-flooded area of Bung Bau ( Dong Nai commune, Bu Dang district), the working group and leaders of departments, branches and localities participated in planting 3,300 yellow cotton trees on an area of 3.4 hectares, with a budget of 200 million VND, including seedlings and care costs for 4 years. Mr. Doan Cong Thuc, deputy head of the Bu Chop forest protection post, said that the unit was assigned to manage these yellow cotton trees.
According to Mr. Thuc, in Bu Dang district, there are about 25,000 hectares of forest land, spread across all communes of the district. Compared to about 5 years ago, the entire forest area is well protected, there is no more deforestation for farming. "That is thanks to the people's awareness of forest protection has changed, only when a tree falls down, do people write a request to bring it back for firewood or see any unusual phenomenon in the forest and immediately report it to the protection force to come and check" - Mr. Thuc said.
Ms. Thi Rap (43 years old, M'Nong ethnic group, Dong Nai commune) said that for the people here, the forest brings no small economic value. "Like me, raising 2 small children alone, the main job is picking cashews and picking coffee, which is very unstable. Therefore, I often go into the forest to pick bamboo shoots or nib leaves (specialties of the region) to sell, earning from 200,000-300,000 VND per day" - Ms. Rap said.
Ms. Rap is also one of five poor households in Dong Nai commune that the delegation gave cows to on June 3. In addition, the delegation presented two solar lighting devices to the Bu Dang Protective Forest Management Board.
Mr. Tran Thanh Hoa, Chairman of Bu Dang District People's Committee, said that the locality will direct the sectors, especially the forest management board, to develop a plan to care for and protect the planted trees. According to Mr. Hoa, the district has great potential to develop green tourism with places such as Bu Lach grassland or Bom Bo hamlet. Mr. Tran Thanh Hoa hopes that the press agencies will promote the locality to call for investors to come and do eco-tourism projects, the district always creates the best conditions for project implementation.

Promote patriotism
Next, the delegation went to Bom Bo village, Binh Minh commune, where the program "Proud of the National Flag" of the Newspaper of Labor presented 5,000 flags in the "National Flag Road" component to local people. The 5,000 national flags presented on this occasion were part of the 15,000 flags that the Newspaper of Labor presented to Binh Phuoc province on the afternoon of June 2 at the meeting and information exchange program between provincial leaders and press agencies.
At the ceremony, Mr. To Dinh Tuan, Editor-in-Chief of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, said that Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper was honored to accompany the Vietnam Journalists Association to carry out meaningful and humane activities in Binh Phuoc province in general, as well as Bu Dang district and Bom Bo hamlet in particular. This is not only the sentiment of the readers of Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper but also of journalists nationwide, under the initiative and careful organization of the Vietnam Journalists Association to look towards Binh Phuoc.
"One day we will return to see the new trees planted this morning and walk along the "National Flag Road" to see the pride rising in everyone's heart. Although small, this is a way to contribute to building and promoting patriotism for everyone" - Mr. To Dinh Tuan expressed.
Also here, the program "Scholarship to support ethnic minority and poor students" founded by Mr. Truong Hoa Binh - former member of the Politburo, former Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, Honorary Chairman of the program "Proud of the National Flag" - and managed by Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, awarded 35 scholarships, worth 2 million VND each, to poor but studious students.
Mr. Tran Trong Dung, Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, said this is the first time the Vietnam Journalists Association has coordinated with central and Ho Chi Minh City press agencies to organize such a practical and meaningful program.
"The activity not only contributes to social security, environmental protection, and combines solidarity, promoting propaganda and information for Binh Phuoc - a southeastern province with many difficulties; but also strengthens the solidarity and friendly relationship between colleagues from Ho Chi Minh City and central press agencies" - Mr. Tran Trong Dung emphasized.
