From far-reaching dreams to a benevolent heart

Talented, dynamic and compassionate - that's what people remember about Lam Thi Minh Dung, a 12th grade English student at Nguyen Tat Thanh High School for the Gifted. At the age of 17, the Lao Cai female student not only achieved impressive academic achievements but also spread love through many volunteer activities, writing a meaningful youth.

Amidst the bustling atmosphere of the volunteer program at Lao Cai General Hospital No. 1, Minh Dung gently handed each meal to the patients. Her eyes lit up with joy as grateful smiles bloomed on the recipients' lips. "Every time I see people happier, I feel that what I do is meaningful," Dung shared in a warm voice.

That simple yet emotional image clearly reflects Minh Dung: a hard-working, intelligent girl who always knows how to live for others. At the age of 17, she makes her teachers and friends admire her for her impressive academic achievements and the way she spreads positive energy to everyone around her.

In studying, Dung always sets clear goals, makes specific plans and perseveres to the end. “I always try to focus on my goals, manage my time carefully and eliminate distractions,” Dung shares about her study secrets. Thanks to that, she achieved IELTS 8.0, HSK5 with 268 points, ranked 5th out of 36 in grade 11, won the Encouragement Prize for Excellent Chinese Students at Yen Bai Province level (before the merger) and Third Prize in the Provincial-City Internet English Olympiad for the 2024-2025 school year.

Minh Dung has many outstanding talents compared to her simple appearance. She has good self-study ability and is fluent in three foreign languages: English, Chinese and German. Dung is a good student but very modest, approachable and simple. In her, teachers see a rare desire to progress, courage and kindness in a 17-year-old.

Not only talented, Minh Dung is also dynamic and creative. In 2025, she and her group of friends participated in the ABS business simulation competition - a playground that brings together students from many countries - and excellently won the Silver Medal. This achievement opened up the opportunity for Dung to attend the World Youth Economic Forum in Shanghai (China), where she met and learned from international friends.

"The most memorable memories were the nights we had online meetings until late at night to complete the presentation. Everyone was full of determination and tried their best. I learned from my friends about team spirit and how to turn pressure into motivation," Dung shared.

If the school year is the time when I strive to conquer knowledge, then summer is the time Dung chooses to share love. Last summer, I joined the "For Beloved Juniors" Club of the Provincial Youth Activity Center in many charity programs: giving more than 200 free meals to patients, giving 60 gifts to child patients on the occasion of June 1st and 10 gifts to patients of the Trauma Department (total value of 6.5 million VND).

Minh Dung is one of the young faces who left a strong impression in the club's activities. Although not a regular member, she always actively participated and proactively supported from the preparation stage to the gift giving. In Dung, I found kindness, maturity and a very precious spirit of sharing.

With a serious learning spirit, outstanding integration ability and a benevolent heart, Minh Dung is writing a beautiful youth - a youth of knowledge, kindness and aspiration to reach far. "Success does not come from luck, but from perseverance and kindness" - Dung always carries that saying in her heart as a compass for her journey of maturity.

Lam Thi Minh Dung is a shining example of a generation of students who not only study well but also live a useful life, spreading positive values to the community. She is the pride of her family, school and hometown Lao Cai.
