"We have a dream that we will witness the golden age of Indonesian football in 2045. Accordingly, we must enter the top 50 on the FIFA rankings. However, that is not an easy task because currently, Saudi Arabia is only ranked 49th and Türkiye is ranked 44th," he said.
Mr. Erick Thohir affirmed that he was not just talking. Instead, from this moment on, Indonesian football will carry out a strong reform, to completely change the face of the national team in the future.
"From now on, we must focus on developing and training young players. Indonesia needs to be brave enough to develop children from the age of 9, instead of 12 as it is now. If we want to compete with football powerhouses, we need to prepare everything for children from the age of 9," said the billionaire.
This is something we will discuss in upcoming meetings. A decision will be made in due course."

Currently, the Indonesian team is ranked 151st in the FIFA rankings. Historically, the highest ranking of the Indonesian team was 76th in the world in 1998. Mr. Erick Thohir wants to help the team improve its ranking by inviting stronger teams to play friendly matches.
For now, the Indonesian team has set a match schedule with Palestine (ranked 93rd in the world) in June this year. Mr. Erick Thohir also has great ambitions when he wants to invite the Argentine team to play a friendly match in the near future.
"We have worked with 3-4 Football Federations. In addition to the Palestine team, we want to find other teams to play friendly matches. I cannot reveal anything at this time" - PSSI President concluded.
