This will be a challenge for coach Kim Sang-sik and his team. Because the Vietnamese team does not have the best squad. Cong Phuong's injury before the match forced Kim Sang-sik to call young player Quoc Viet to replace him.

Coach Kim Sang-sik shared: “Cong Phuong was first called up under my tenure but unfortunately suffered an injury and had to leave the team. This is a big loss because his experience is very useful for the match against Malaysia. However, with the remaining 23 players, the whole team will continue to improve their playing style and prepare best for the next match.”

Mr. Kim also frankly admitted the difficulties in terms of personnel when the Vietnamese team lacked a series of key players due to injuries. Meanwhile, the Malaysian team added a series of naturalized players. This also brought challenges to the Vietnamese team.

Coach Kim Sang-sik said: “According to the information we have, Malaysia has about 8-10 new naturalized players compared to the last tournament, causing many difficulties in analyzing the opponent’s tactics. We will continue to monitor and analyze to have the best preparation. The players are all trying their best to be ready for the away match on June 10.”

When traveling with the Vietnamese team to Thailand, central defender Do Duy Manh said: “Through the press, we know that the Malaysian team has a number of quality naturalized players. The upcoming match will certainly not be easy, especially when playing at Bukit Jalil Stadium with the enthusiastic cheers of the home audience. However, the whole team is in good spirits and actively preparing the final stages to aim for a favorable result.

We have experience playing at Bukit Jalil in the first leg of the 2018 AFF Cup final, so we understand the heat here. The whole team will try to adapt to the weather conditions, practice hard to have the best preparation," the captain of the Vietnamese team emphasized.

Besides the changes in the opponents' personnel, Do Duy Manh also commented that Southeast Asian football is witnessing more and more naturalized players, requiring teams to continuously adapt and make more efforts.

The Vietnamese team is heading into the match with favorable statistics. We have not lost to Malaysia for 10 years. The Vietnamese team is also the current Southeast Asian champion. Coach Kim Sang-sik is also a figure highly appreciated by the Malaysian media before this confrontation. Recently, Mr. Kim also led the Southeast Asian All-Stars team to a victory against Man United, which was a big boost in morale.

Mr. Kim also expressed his determination: “All matches are very stressful, but the joy will be doubled when we overcome difficulties and win. I always believe that the players will unite and make efforts to overcome challenges. Although the qualifying round takes place in a home-away format, we do not want to drop any points and aim to win all 3 points in the next match. In general, victory is always the highest goal of the Vietnamese team.”

According to plan, the Vietnamese team will have their first training session in Malaysia at 6:00 p.m. on June 6, starting the process of completing tactical and physical preparations for the match against Malaysia, taking place at Bukit Jalil Stadium at 9:00 p.m. local time on June 10.

Coach Mai Duc Chung evaluates the Vietnamese women's team

After nearly a month of being stationed at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, coach Mai Duc Chung and the players have completed their physical and technical training. Moving into the new phase, the Vietnam women's team will focus on friendly matches to perfect the squad and test replacement personnel.

On June 5, coach Mai Duc Chung also announced the list of 26 athletes going to Japan for training. Accordingly, 4 players returned to their hometowns including Tran Thi Trang (Ha Nam), Luu Nhu Quynh (Thai Nguyen), Cu Thi Huynh Nhu (Ho Chi Minh City) and Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha ( Hanoi ) - a young striker of Hanoi who did not recover from a minor injury.

Evaluating his players, coach Mai Duc Chung said that the Vietnamese women's team had a month of active training with good results, including 5 friendly matches. For the friendly match with Werder Bremen, the Vietnamese women's team only had one week to prepare, but in the following practice matches with the men's teams in Vinh Yen, Son Tay and Bac Ninh , the female players gained a lot of experience and useful lessons. He said: "After a month, the team's training spirit and physical fitness have improved a lot. We have stabilized the squad for the upcoming training session in Japan."

“The Vietnamese women's team continues to be rejuvenated with many young players being called up for training. We have been doing this well since the previous SEA Games 32, so we currently have a well-rejuvenated squad as many athletes are also getting older. Without young athletes, our performance is at risk of falling behind. Our goal is still to train and let young players get used to the way of training, living and competing in a big team, then gradually get used to competing,” coach Mai Duc Chung shared.
