Compared to the starting lineup in the 0-4 loss to U23 UAE, coach Philippe Troussier brought goalkeeper Quan Van Chuan back into the starting lineup. Tien Long and Minh Khoa, although returning after suspension, were only on the bench.
Having lost their first two matches, U23 Vietnam and U23 Kyrgyzstan both started the match cautiously. Facing a not-so-strong opponent, Coach Troussier's team took the initiative and pressed the field. However, the red team did not create any clear-cut chances.
U23 Kyrgyzstan played quite stalemately and had no shots on goal by Quan Van Chuan. Although holding the ball a lot, U23 Vietnam's attacks still lacked sharpness.
The most notable situation of U23 Vietnam happened in the 39th minute. From Minh Trong's early cross, Van Truong headed the ball to Thanh Nhan. This striker rushed in to finish but the ball did not have any difficulty for the opposing goalkeeper.
The U23 Vietnam defense still did not bring peace of mind. At the end of the first half, U23 Vietnam almost conceded a goal from the opponent's header after a corner kick, fortunately goalkeeper Quan Van Chuan flew to save the ball.
At the beginning of the second half, Coach Troussier sent Vu Tien Long, Nguyen Duc Viet, Nguyen Quoc Viet onto the field to replace Luong Duy Cuong, Huynh Cong Den and Nguyen Van Truong. Then, it was Khuat Van Khang's turn to replace Van Do, but U23 Vietnam could not make a difference.
In the second half, U23 Kyrgyzstan accelerated the game and organized more attacks towards U23 Vietnam's goal. However, coach Troussier's team still had the advantage and coordinated better.
Unfortunately, at the most important moments, U23 Vietnam lacked sharpness in finishing. In the 84th minute, U23 Kyrgyzstan was reduced to 10 players when defender Midin received a second yellow card and had to leave the field.
U23 Vietnam tried to put pressure with continuous attacks to find a goal in the final stage of the match. In the 90th minute, Khuat Van Khang had a very dangerous free kick from 25m, but the ball still did not go into the net.
After a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes, the two teams entered a penalty shootout. U23 Vietnam lost 4-5 when striker Quoc Viet could not defeat goalkeeper Artem. Losing all 3 matches and failing to score a goal, U23 Vietnam finished last in the 2023 Doha Cup.
