In a paper published in the journal Nutrients, a team of scientists from the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (Spain), the Universidad Autonoma de Chile and the Universidad Poliecnica y Artistica del Paraguay discovered an interesting "opposite effect" between red wine and white wine.
People who drink them regularly, in moderate doses, reduce their risk of cardiovascular death, their risk of cardiovascular disease and especially coronary artery disease - which often leads to deadly heart attacks.

Data from more than 1.4 million people were collected with cumulative follow-up ranging from 4 to 25 years, revealing a clear inverse relationship between consumption of these two types of alcohol and mortality from cardiovascular problems in general.
The authors also delved into the mechanism, discovering that components in wine reduce the risk of a problem closely related to strokes and heart attacks: Thrombosis, or blood clots.
Red wine has a more pronounced effect, due to its higher concentration of beneficial components than white wine. These are phenolic compounds such as gallic acid, catechin and epicatechin, which are compounds belonging to the group of "favonoids", a type of antioxidant found in red grapes.
It also reduces the oxidation of bad cholesterol (LDL) and changes several other blood components, according to News-Medical.
Of course, to achieve this effect, you should drink wine in moderation. The most common recommendations are about 1 standard glass of wine per day, which is poured from only a part of the glass. Excessive consumption causes the opposite effect, when the beneficial components are defeated by the cumulative harmful effects of alcohol.
Also, here's an interesting suggestion for people who don't tolerate alcohol well: Try ethanol-free wine. People who drank ethanol-free wine in the study still got the same benefits as those who drank regular wine.
A fairly practical example is the Mediterranean diet, which often includes wine, and is considered the "best diet in the world ", helping the Spanish top the health charts.
