Specifically, on business class flights from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Phu Quoc, along with international flights to Europe and Australia, Vietnam Airlines will replace the usual dessert with fresh, juicy, sweet lychee - the fruit honored as the "precious gem" of the Northern summer.
Passengers will have the opportunity to enjoy the taste of summer in the Northern Delta right at an altitude of 10,000 meters.
To preserve the full flavor of the specialty in the air, Vietnam Airlines applies a strict selection, transportation and preservation process, helping to maintain the freshness and food safety. Each lychee is carefully checked for weight, juiciness and harmonious sweetness, meeting VietGap and 4-star OCOP safety standards, bringing passengers wonderful experiences on every flight.
Mr. Dang Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines, emphasized: "One of the missions of Vietnam's national airline is to bring Vietnamese culture to the world , and the special agricultural products of each region are part of that mission. Bringing Hung Yen lychee on flights this time once again affirms the airline's desire to promote the quintessence of agricultural products of each locality of Vietnam to passengers and communities at home and abroad."
The Hung Yen egg lychee tree originated from the ancestral lychee tree of Mr. Nguyen Van Vi's family in Ba Dong village, Phan Sao Nam commune, Phu Cu district. This lychee tree bears large fruit, shaped like an egg, so it was named egg lychee. Later, the egg lychee trees were widely propagated by the people of Phan Sao Nam commune. Up to now, the Hung Yen egg lychee tree is mainly grown in Phu Cu district and a part of An Thi district.
Lychee has a thin, bright red skin, thick flesh, small seeds, and some fruits are almost seedless. The flesh is crispy, sweet, and has a characteristic cool aroma that anyone who has tasted it will find hard to forget. Not only delicious, lychee is also very nutritious, containing lots of vitamin C and essential minerals for health, becoming a precious gift of nature with limited quantity and high economic value.
Vietnam Airlines business class meals are supplemented with Hung Yen lychee egg dessert.
Hung Yen egg lychee was recognized by the Intellectual Property Office (Ministry of Science and Technology) as a certified trademark in 2020 and ranked as a 4-star OCOP product (one product per commune) by the Provincial People's Committee. In 2022, Hung Yen egg lychee was exported to the European market for the first time. The current market price of Hung Yen egg lychee ranges from 150,000 - 250,000 VND/kg, depending on the market and fruit quality. In the Northern market, the price can range from 150,000 - 180,000 VND/kg; while in the South, the price can be up to 250,000 - 270,000 VND/kg.
Previously, the airline has introduced specialties such as Hung Yen longan, Thanh Ha lychee, Cao Phong orange, Moc Chau strawberry, Son La plum..., receiving high appreciation from domestic and foreign passengers.
By bringing Hung Yen lychee specialty to the in-flight dining tray, Vietnam Airlines not only brings culinary quintessence, but also conveys a story about the homeland - affirming its role as "Vietnamese culinary and cultural ambassador", accompanying Vietnamese agricultural products to reach out to the world.
