With the aim of encouraging students and young people to actively read books, thereby supporting them in their studies, cultivating knowledge, and improving their professional skills, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Library inaugurated the Reading Festival - Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2025 with the theme "Reading Culture - Connecting the Community". At the festival, more than 400 students participated in activities including visiting the mobile library and the art book exhibition space with more than 4,000 books diverse in content and genre. The books were elaborately displayed, creating a vibrant cultural space that helped to ignite a passion for reading among young people. Together with the Provincial Library, in 2025, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism also coordinated the launching ceremony of Vietnam's Book and Reading Culture Day, and a book exhibition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
Books have always been an invaluable resource, providing knowledge, fostering creative thinking, and contributing to the development of society. In the digital age, despite changes in how information is accessed, books still play a crucial role in shaping awareness and defining the future of each individual. Therefore, to contribute to building a reading culture, igniting a passion for reading, enhancing political acumen, cultivating revolutionary moral qualities, and fostering cohesion among members, the Vice Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee and Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Le Ngoc Anh, stated: “The Provincial Youth Union has implemented many solutions, including building the ‘Youth Following Uncle Ho’s Teachings’ bookshelf model in 100% of its affiliated youth union branches and organizations. This has received positive support from a large number of youth union members and young people.” For example, the Tho Xuan Commune Youth Union is one of the units that has actively and effectively implemented the “Youth Following Uncle Ho’s Teachings” bookshelf model. Accordingly, with books on topics such as law, politics, and specialized subjects, including many valuable books about the great example and noble virtues of President Ho Chi Minh, the youth union members always seek out and carefully preserve them. The books in the bookshelf are also arranged scientifically, making them easy to find, see, retrieve, and put away. After the "Youth Bookshelf Following Uncle Ho's Teachings" was established, every day, in the mornings before work and during breaks, as well as after work, the union members gather at the bookshelf to choose good books for themselves and their branches to study on professional work, legal knowledge, exemplary figures, and to learn from and follow the moral example and style of Ho Chi Minh...
Furthermore, to inspire a passion for reading among young people, in 2025, the Provincial Youth Union collaborated with many organizations to effectively carry out meaningful activities such as: the "Youth and Books" festival; launching the campaign to build "Youth Libraries following Uncle Ho's teachings"; donating libraries to schools; coordinating the organization of thematic activities, competitions, and performances related to book introductions; encouraging young people to visit post offices - cultural centers and libraries in the area to read books, learn knowledge and information, and apply it to their studies, work, and production...
Recognizing the role and importance of reading culture in social life, on November 4, 2021, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1862/QD-TTg on Vietnam's Book and Reading Culture Day, designating April 21st of each year as Vietnam's Book and Reading Culture Day. This aims to encourage and develop the reading movement, create a favorable reading environment, and build reading habits in families, schools, agencies, organizations, and communities; and to identify and honor organizations and individuals who have contributed to the development of books and reading culture in the community.
To continue preserving and promoting the reading movement, all levels and sectors need to continue paying attention to the dissemination, promotion, and advertising of books to the community; and the involvement of the media system. In addition, families and schools also play an important role in creating an environment for young people to access books to learn about life. Activities promoting, introducing, and encouraging children to seek out books through various media channels should also be carried out regularly, contributing to guiding them towards invaluable sources of knowledge.
