Brilliant milestone

Contributing to the success of the August Revolution, Tan An Party Committee demonstrated a spirit of dynamism, creativity, solidarity, internal unity, and led the people to take the lead in the August General Uprising in the South.

According to the book History of Long An Provincial Party Committee (1930-2000), on August 19, 1945, the uprising to seize power was victorious in the capital Hanoi.

On the night of August 20 and the morning of August 21, 1945, the Southern Regional Party Committee held its 2nd and 3rd expanded conference at Cho Dem Market, deciding to conduct a pilot uprising in Tan An. Comrade Nguyen Van Hoang received orders from the Regional Party Committee to direct the uprising in Tan An. When he had not yet returned to Tan An, there was suddenly news of a rebellion. Faced with that situation, the Provincial Party Committee seized the opportunity to act. By 3:00 p.m. on August 21, 1945, all offices, residences, barracks, treasuries, factories, etc. were in the hands of the revolution.

On the morning of August 22, 1945, 4,000 people with bamboo poles, spears, and carrying the red flag with yellow star poured into the provincial capital's football field to participate in a rally to celebrate the success of the revolution. As they walked, the group chanted the slogan "Long live Vietnam's independence!". The representative of the Provisional Administrative Committee of Tan An province - Chairman Nguyen Van Trong declared: "Tan An government has returned to the people!"

For the first time in history, a 15-year-old Party successfully led a revolution and seized power nationwide; overthrew the colonial rule of more than 80 years, ended the feudal monarchy; and opened a new era in the nation's history: the era of independence, freedom and socialism.

This victory laid a solid foundation for the democratic republic regime, creating a new position and strength for Vietnam to fight and defeat French colonialism, American imperialism and other wars to defend the Fatherland; enhancing the pride of the Vietnamese people. The above tradition continues to be promoted in the cause of innovation, construction and defense of the Fatherland.

“Red Address” recalls the August Revolution

In Tan An City today, there are two important addresses that remind us of the vibrant and heroic days of the August Revolution: Minh Xuan Duong Pharmacy and the historical relic of the General Than House. Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Tan An City - Nguyen Hoang Phi said: "Minh Xuan Duong Pharmacy and the General Than House are historical relics in Tan An City related to the August Revolution in 1945.

With special historical significance, these relics always attract the attention of cadres, party members and people of all walks of life in the province, becoming “red addresses” in the journey back to the source, educating the tradition of today’s generation. Therefore, the city always strives to preserve, conserve and promote the value of the relics.

Minh Xuan Duong Pharmacy was the secret operating location of the Tan An Party Committee for nearly 10 years (1936-1945).

Minh Xuan Duong Pharmacy is located at 17 Nguyen Duy Street, Ward 1, Tan An City, owned by physician Le Minh Xuan. This was the secret headquarters of the Tan An Party Committee during the struggle for power (1936-1945).

At the end of June 1945, the Provisional Provincial Party Committee held its first expanded conference at Minh Xuan Duong Pharmacy. The conference promoted important contents such as outlining plans to prepare for an uprising in the provincial capital and assigning leaders to seize power in the districts. This can be considered an important conference that was decisive in preparing forces to seize power in Tan An provincial capital and the entire province afterwards.

Also at Minh Xuan Duong pharmacy, Tan An Provincial Party Committee held a conference to agree on a resolution for action - called "Red Resolution".

Located at 19 Ngo Quyen Street, Ward 1, Tan An City, the Tong Than House Historical Relic is one of the unique ancient architectural works in the French style from the late 19th century that still exists today. According to the Tong Than House Relic Records, this is the private residence of Cai Tong Tran Khac Than, built in 1892.

In 1935, due to losing a lawsuit over family property disputes, his third son, Tran Khac Lang, had to sell his house and land in Binh Lap (now the central area of Tan An City) to pay off his debts. From then on, Tong Than's house was owned by the French government of Tan An Province. In 1941, Japanese fascists occupied Tong Than's house to use as the headquarters of the Imperial Army Command in Tan An.

Tan An City strives to preserve, conserve and promote the value of historical relics associated with the August Revolution.

After successfully seizing power in Tan An provincial capital on August 22, 1945, Tong Than's house was chosen as the public headquarters of Tan An Provincial Party Committee. At this location, the Provincial Party Committee held 3 conferences to discuss and decide on important issues regarding government building after the August Revolution in Tan An. At the end of October 1945, the French army attacked Tan An provincial capital. To ensure the safety of its forces and prepare for a long-term resistance, the Provincial Party Committee withdrew from Tong Than's house and returned to Moc Hoa.

After 1975, Tong Than's house was under the management of Tan An Town People's Committee. On November 12, 1998, the Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 3148/1998/QD.UB ranking Tong Than's house as a provincial historical relic. In 2009, Tong Than's house was invested in for restoration and embellishment to serve the province's traditional education and tourism activities.

Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Lan (Ward 2, Tan An City) shared: “I had the opportunity to visit the historical sites associated with the activities of Tan An Provincial Party Committee and the milestone of the August Revolution. Coming here, I am even more proud of the fighting tradition of my fathers and brothers and vow to promote my youth, continue to practice, cultivate morality, and improve my professional qualifications to be able to contribute more to my homeland.”

Over the years, the “red addresses” have been preserved and embellished as a reminder of the losses and pain of war and the heroic past of the nation’s struggle that cannot be forgotten. Promoting the spirit of the August Revolution, the Party Committee, government and people of Long An continue to unite and build the province to develop rapidly and sustainably./.
