The Disciplinary Committee of the Vietnam Football Federation has officially issued a heavy penalty to defender Dinh Viet Tu of The Cong Viettel Club for his offensive behavior towards Nam Dinh fans in round 23 of the V.League 2025/26.
According to the announced decision, the 34-year-old player was fined 15 million VND and suspended for 3 matches, meaning he will miss the rest of this year's V-League season.
The incident occurred during the match between Nam Dinh Green Steel Club and Viettel Sports Club at Thien Truong Stadium on the evening of May 17th.
During the match, Dinh Viet Tu was constantly booed and criticized with unpleasant language by many Nam Dinh fans. The immense pressure from the stands caused the veteran defender to lose his composure and give the middle finger to the Nam Dinh supporters.
The incident quickly went viral on social media, sparking intense controversy after the match, and the Disciplinary Committee of the Vietnam Football Federation had to issue a retrospective penalty against the player.
After 23 rounds, The Cong Viettel is ranked 2nd in the V-League 2025/2026 standings. In the 24th round, the military team will host bottom-placed PVF CAND at 7:15 PM on Friday, May 22nd.
Meanwhile, Nam Dinh Green Steel Club is currently in 6th place in the V-League and will be playing away against Hanoi FC at 7:15 PM on Sunday, May 24th, in this weekend's 24th round match.
