Why do many young Vietnamese people always want to go on 'medical tourism'?
Báo Dân trí•02/06/2024
(Dan Tri) - The keyword "healing" is very popular among young Vietnamese people. Many people have not hesitated to spend tens of millions of dong on "healing tourism ".
Healing is the process of mental, emotional and physical recovery. In the context of modern life with many pressures and stresses, this concept is becoming more and more popular, especially among young people. Along with "healing", the concept of "healing tourism" is also getting more attention. This is a form of tourism combined with activities to help improve mental and physical health, or simply relaxing in peaceful natural locations.
When young people like to go for "healing"
Young people, especially Gen Z (those born between 1997 and 2012), are currently facing pressure from work, study and society. These are also factors that cause Mai Lan (22 years old, from Thanh Oai, Hanoi ) to suffer a lot of stress. "As a final year student who is both studying and working, I have to face a lot of pressure. From completing my graduation thesis to deadlines, reports, company meeting schedules... every day that passes for me is like a battle, very tiring and easily exhausted", Mai Lan confided to Dan Tri reporter. When exposed more to the concept of "healing tourism", Lan has spent 2-3 days a month traveling alone or with close friends. This is how the 22-year-old girl thinks she can heal her soul after periods of stressful work. "Every time I go for a healing trip, I almost disconnect from social media so I can fully enjoy the trip," she said. Mai Lan on a trip to Ninh Binh (Photo: NVCC). Mai Lan said that she often saves from her salary, part-time job money, and scholarships to pay for "healing" trips. The expenses she spends after each trip range from a few million VND to tens of millions of VND. Minh Huyen (25 years old, living in Hanoi) also loves to travel and has a passion for exploring new lands. Huyen does not have the habit of planning her trips in advance. She often decides to travel after watching videos on social networks about places that many young people are interested in. "Because I work as a freelancer, I am quite flexible in terms of time and travel. But the downside of this job is that I have to interact with a lot of customers and receive a lot of negative feedback, which will gradually be suppressed in my heart. So, the trips not only satisfy my passion for traveling, but also give me an opportunity to relieve stress and get more inspiration for work," she confided. Minh Huyen likes to enjoy peaceful moments during each trip (Photo: NVCC). However, Minh Huyen does not consider it "healing tourism" but simply a personal hobby that helps her feel more comfortable. The 25-year-old girl believes that the "healing tourism" trend comes from the need to find balance and recovery in the busy lives of young people. "For me, it is simply traveling, not healing as many people often call it. Because healing is not something that has immediate results. It is accepting one's wounds, healing from thoughts, from the way one feels about life and from the way one faces suffering. This is a time-consuming process, requiring a high level of commitment in many factors such as time, emotions, money...", Huyen explained. Faced with the widespread appearance of the phrase "healing" and the trend of "healing tourism", Viet Anh (37 years old, from Thai Binh ) expressed: "Nowadays, people seek many healing methods, from healing tourism, healing books, healing music to healing scents. Dozens of healing concepts "spring up" and it seems that people truly believe that through those things, they are truly healed."
"The feeling of relaxation and happiness after a vacation is only temporary"
Viet Anh commented: "In fact, the origin of the healing trend is not new but has appeared for a long time. This trend has flourished after the Covid-19 period, when many people experienced great shocks such as losing loved ones, losing jobs or going bankrupt, so they needed mental comfort. But now, I see that people are abusing the word healing and then mistakenly following the crowd that they need healing." Besides, he also does not deny that "healing tourism" can really bring mental and physical benefits. "Changing the environment, participating in relaxing activities such as yoga, meditation or immersing yourself in nature all help reduce stress, improve mental health and recharge. Moreover, travel is also a valuable investment for mental and physical health. In today's stressful modern life, taking time to take care of yourself is very important. On the contrary, abuse of healing is on the rise. This concept is like a way to justify spending on expensive travel. Healing travel often requires a large amount of money, from travel costs, accommodation to health care and relaxation services. The total cost of a healing vacation can be up to tens of millions of VND," he explained. At the end of a trip, many people often fall into a state of "post-holiday blues" (Illustration: Freepik). According to Viet Anh, the feeling of relaxation and happiness after a vacation is only temporary. When returning to daily life, pressure and stress will reappear. "It's hard to believe that when you experience a certain trauma and then book a ticket for a trip to a new land, allow yourself to relax by deleting social networks, immerse yourself in nature for hours on end... that wound will be completely healed. What everyone should do is go deep into their own healing journey, that is, go inward to look at themselves and solve their own problems," Viet Anh shared. Agreeing with Viet Anh, Minh Huyen said that it is not necessary to travel to heal. "Proper healing must be done in the thoughts and behaviors of each individual. Eliminating bad thoughts and habits is healing. Each person's healing method does not need to be the same as anyone else's, just need to go in the right direction for themselves," she said. Huyen added that in addition to medical tourism, there are many other methods to reduce stress and improve mental health without spending too much money. Such as meditation and yoga - which can be practiced every day at home, helping people relax and focus. Participating in a workshop not only helps you relax but also brings joy and new creativity (Illustration: Freepik). In addition, the 25-year-old girl also gave some other suggestions such as: Participate in art activities, painting workshops, playing musical instruments... to relieve emotions and improve the spirit. Even simple things like spending time with family and friends, or taking a relaxing walk can bring moments of peace to the soul. Minh Huyen realized that it is important for each individual to find the method that best suits their circumstances and needs. Whether it is a luxury trip or simple daily activities, the ultimate goal is to keep the mind and body balanced and healthy.
