Will Greenwood ever return to MU? |
According to Fichajes , MU intends to send a 100 million euro offer to bring Mason Greenwood - a star who grew up in their training academy - back after a period of sublime performance at Marseille. The price will make the player born in 2001 the most expensive striker in the history of Old Trafford.
Previously, MU had broken the record to recruit former players. The sensational deal that reached the milestone of 105 million euros in the name of Paul Pogba is still imprinted in the minds of those who love the "Red Devils".
Greenwood will leave MU in 2024 for a fee of 26 million euros, with a clause allowing the English team to receive 50% of the resale value in the future. However, after witnessing the 24-year-old's remarkable progress in Ligue 1, MU's board of directors believes that buying Greenwood outright is necessary to avoid depending on the profit-sharing clause and ensure full control of the player.
At Marseille, Greenwood shone brightly with important goals and assists, helping him quickly regain his image and value in the transfer market. Greenwood's impressive performance made it difficult for Marseille to retain him, and forced MU to act urgently in the face of interest from many other European teams.
According to the plan, the deal could be completed in the summer transfer window of 2026, if the two sides reach a final agreement. Although Marseille considers Greenwood a “long-term project”, the price of 100 million euros is considered enough to convince the club to let him go.
Greenwood currently has 6 goals and 3 assists after 8 matches in Ligue 1 this season.
