Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences becomes a key research center

On December 2, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 70th anniversary of its founding (December 2, 1953 - December 2, 2023). Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council attended.

Also attending the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha; representatives of Central and local ministries and agencies; leaders and former leaders of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences .

On the international side, there were members of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party: Director of the Lao National Academy of Politics and Public Administration Phouvong Ounkhamsen, President of the Lao Institute of Economic and Social Sciences Sonethanou Thammavong; representatives of embassies, international organizations, research and training organizations that have cooperative relations with the Academy.

On this occasion, Politburo members: President Vo Van Thuong, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, and Standing member of the Secretariat Truong Thi Mai sent flower baskets to congratulate the Institute.

In his speech commemorating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, President Phan Chi Hieu emphasized: 70 years ago, also on this day - December 2, 1953, the Department of History, Geography, and Literature Research (the predecessor of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences today) was established under Resolution No. 34 of the Central Executive Committee of the Vietnam Workers' Party. This is the first social sciences and humanities research organization of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, directly under the Party Central Committee.

During its 70-year history of establishment and development, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences has repeatedly supplemented and adjusted its functions, tasks, name and organizational structure to suit the requirements, tasks and practical situation of the resistance war for national salvation, national liberation, building socialism and the process of national renewal.

Comrade Phan Chi Hieu said that after 70 years of construction and development, the Academy has grown and become stronger in all aspects, achieving many important achievements, namely: The functions, tasks, and organizational structure of the Academy are increasingly perfected; the staff and civil servants are growing in both quantity and quality; the Academy has achieved many outstanding achievements in scientific research: Tens of thousands of articles have been published in scientific journals, more than 7,000 books have been published domestically and internationally; 21 scientists of the Academy have had works and clusters of works awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize; 28 scientists have had works and clusters of works awarded the State Prize; the Academy's research has provided many valuable scientific and practical arguments for the Party and State's policy-making in comprehensive national innovation, socio-economic development, and international integration; The work of training and developing high-quality human resources has achieved many specific results, contributing to the formation of a large team of social sciences and humanities cadres with solid expertise, operating in almost all fields.

With its achievements and results, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences has been recognized by the Party, State, and international friends, and awarded many noble titles and prizes.

The President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences affirmed that the goal in the new development stage is to effectively and substantially implement the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws on science and technology development, focusing on developing the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences into a key research center on social sciences and humanities, on par with advanced countries in the region and the world, a leading theoretical research and strategic advisory agency and policy consultant of the Party and State, providing important scientific arguments for formulating guidelines, strategies, planning, plans, and policies for national construction and defense; a postgraduate training institution that reaches advanced levels in the region and the world, making an important contribution to developing high-quality human resources in social sciences for the country.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha commended the achievements and contributions to the country that the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences has made over the past 70 years; acknowledged and expressed gratitude for the outstanding efforts and great contributions of the entire team of scientists, officials and civil servants of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences through the periods.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that development practice shows that successful countries are those that know how to make use of social sciences, have a strong social science foundation, and a society that is both modern and traditional, both innovative and inherited; at the same time, he said that for Vietnam, the task of social sciences is not only to clarify new theoretical and practical issues about the development model; historical values, but also to promote the development of Vietnamese culture and people, liberate and develop productive forces; arouse the aspiration for development, promote the will and strength of great national unity combined with the strength of the times; build and firmly defend the Fatherland, maintain a peaceful and stable environment. These are very high requirements for the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences - the agency assigned by the Party and State to research, consult and train highly qualified human resources in social sciences.

Basically agreeing with the orientations and tasks set by the Academy, the Deputy Prime Minister shared some thoughts on the development orientation of Vietnam's social sciences in the coming time. Accordingly, the Central Executive Committee issued Resolution No. 45-NQ/TW on continuing to build and promote the role of intellectuals to meet the requirements of rapid and sustainable national development in the new period; in which, it identified the task of focusing on building breakthrough mechanisms, policies and resources to develop the Academy of Social Sciences into one of the key training and research institutions, on par with advanced countries. Therefore, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the Academy should mobilize a team of experts, study the experiences of countries around the world to develop a project to submit to competent authorities for early approval; continue to fundamentally, comprehensively and synchronously innovate the organizational system and management mechanism of the Academy in a modern direction; ensure a streamlined structure, effective and efficient operation; Modernize facilities and technology, carry out digital transformation; connect and share data and research results.

Along with that, the Academy needs to mobilize the Academy's scientific staff to participate in the process of summarizing 40 years of innovation in the fields of culture, society and people, so that on the basis of lessons learned, inheriting development, absorbing the quintessence of humanity, it can put forward new theories and policies in the Documents of the 14th National Party Congress.

At the same time, coordinate with the Committees, Ministries and branches to summarize the Resolutions of the 11th Central Executive Committee on the fields of social sciences such as: Resolution No. 20 on science and technology development; Resolution No. 29 on fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training; Resolution No. 33 on building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet the requirements of sustainable national development; propose new policies in education, science and technology, innovation and development of culture and people.

The Academy also needs to focus on implementing basic scientific research programs and projects, lessons learned from the first, second, and third industrial revolutions and the opportunities and challenges posed by the fourth industrial revolution; development trends, theories, and models in the era of green transformation, digital transformation, and knowledge-based economic development; development experiences of countries around the world, contributing to effectively resolving major relationships arising in the process of Innovation; providing arguments for building strategies, policies, roadmaps, and steps for Vietnam to be proactive in the face of trends and changes of the times...

On this occasion, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences was honored to receive the Friendship Medal awarded by the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. A number of outstanding collectives and individuals were also awarded Certificates of Merit by the President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences./.
