At the meeting, Minister Bui Thanh Son congratulated Minister Penny Wong and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for their careful and thorough preparations for the Special Summit to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia relations, expressing his belief that the conference will be a great success. Minister Bui Thanh Son also thanked Minister Penny Wong for her careful coordination in preparing for Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official visit to Australia.

Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his satisfaction with the recent progress in bilateral relations as well as cooperation between the two foreign ministries. Minister Bui Thanh Son also suggested that the two sides continue to closely coordinate in implementing support packages worth nearly AUD 200 million (nearly USD 130 million) for clean energy development and climate change adaptation in the Mekong Delta region, which Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced during their recent visits to Vietnam.

Minister Penny Wong expressed her pleasure at welcoming Minister Bui Thanh Son to Melbourne for the first time, thanking the Vietnamese Government as well as Minister Bui Thanh Son personally for supporting and actively attending the Special Summit to celebrate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia relations. Minister Penny Wong appreciated the fact that the two countries have had many practical and specific activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic relations in 2023.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Penny Wong invited Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son to soon return to visit Australia and co-chair the sixth Vietnam-Australia Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

Also on March 5, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son met with Mr. Simon Birmingham, in charge of diplomacy for the Australian opposition. During the meeting, Minister Bui Thanh Son expressed his appreciation for Australia's maintenance of socio-economic stability and its response to global economic instability, while passing many important laws with the support of opposition parties, helping Australia maintain its role and position in the region and the world. Minister Bui Thanh Son said that these achievements had positive contributions from the Liberal Party.

Minister Bui Thanh Son also appreciated Mr. Simon Birmingham's efforts to promote Vietnam-Australia cooperation in his capacity as the opposition's foreign affairs minister, as well as the positions he held such as Minister of Education and Training, Minister of Finance, and Minister of Trade and Investment under the Coalition government.

Mr. Simon Birmingham affirmed that Australia attaches importance to its relations with Vietnam, considering Vietnam one of its important partners in the Asia-Pacific region. He said that he always follows and highly appreciates recent achievements in bilateral relations, especially in the fields of political cooperation, economics - trade - investment, defense - security as well as other potential areas.

Mr. Simon Birmingham once again affirmed his support for the Vietnam - Australia relationship, regardless of his position, and wished to visit Vietnam again soon.

On this occasion, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son had a brief meeting with Mr. Nicholas Moore, Special Envoy of the Australian Government to Southeast Asia. At the meeting, Mr. Nicholas Moore affirmed that Australia highly appreciates the potential for cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the fields of economics, trade and investment. He said that Vietnam holds an important position in implementing Australia's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040.
