In just over a week, Hanoi will be the place to mark a historic event of global law on cyberspace. The signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime is a testament to the international community's joint efforts to build a peaceful , safe and healthy cyberspace.
Vietnam is a country that has contributed many important contents in the negotiation process since 2019 and is recognized in the text of the Convention under the name " Hanoi Convention".
In an article titled "Road to Hanoi", Ms. Ghada Waly (Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Director-General of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime) stated: "Vietnam is a leading country in the region in efforts to combat cybercrime, enhance digital security and is a suitable host for the signing ceremony. This ceremony can mark the beginning of a more effective global response to cybercrime".

"Our current role is not only to participate, but also to organize and lead activities, especially activities against all types of crimes in cyberspace," said Major General Le Xuan Minh (Director of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control, Ministry of Public Security ).
After signing, Vietnam will continue to review the relevant legal system, including the Law on Cyber Security (amended); and coordination mechanisms, especially the 24/7 mechanism for data transfer, extradition of criminals and recovery of criminal assets.
Mr. Ngo Minh Hieu (founder of the Anti-Fraud Project) said: "Contribute to pushing back fraud and cybercrime and contribute to giving countries trust, a platform to follow, share data information and combine together to jointly destroy transnational criminal networks".
With political determination, efforts of the authorities, and the cooperation of the community, Vietnam has the conditions to not only sign but also effectively implement this Convention. This is an opportunity for Vietnam to promote international cooperation on cybersecurity in the process of national digital transformation.
"We are promoting a very important strategy related to digital transformation, application of science and technology and innovation. To do that, the Party and State also pay great attention to cybersecurity and cybercrime prevention and control," Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang affirmed.
The Hanoi Convention, which coincides with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations, is not only a milestone in international agreements, but also a reminder to the international community of the responsibility to protect the digital environment from threats that are not unique to any single country.
