Ambassador, what positive developments have occurred in the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Finland recently?

In recent years, Vietnam-Finland relations have developed very positively, substantively, and comprehensively, as evidenced by enhanced political dialogue, expanded economic, educational, and scientific and technological cooperation, and increasingly deep people-to-people exchanges.

In terms of politics and diplomacy , the two countries maintain regular exchanges of delegations and high-level contacts, thereby strengthening mutual trust and understanding. The upcoming visit of General Secretary To Lam will be the most important milestone, affirming a new level in bilateral relations and opening up directions for longer-term and more comprehensive cooperation.

Economically , bilateral trade volume has maintained stable growth. Many large Finnish companies such as Nokia, Vaisala, Valmet, KONE, etc., have operated effectively in Vietnam, contributing to promoting digital transformation, green development, and innovation. Vietnam is increasingly asserting its position as Finland's leading trading partner in Southeast Asia, as evidenced by being one of the four Asian countries prioritized by Finland in its trade and investment policy.

In education and science and technology, cooperation is increasingly vibrant. Thousands of Vietnamese students are studying in Finland, a country considered to have one of the world's leading advanced education systems. Universities and research institutes in both countries have implemented many joint training and research programs, particularly in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), clean energy, and innovation.

Furthermore, the Vietnamese community in Finland is growing, integrating well, and actively contributing to local society. It also serves as a bridge of friendship between the people of the two countries, which is one of the reasons why the Finnish government included Vietnam in its list of four countries that "attract talent."

All these results show that the Vietnam-Finland relationship is entering a phase of "equal partnership, sustainable cooperation and mutual development," in line with the vision of both countries towards a green and innovative future.

Ambassador, could you please elaborate on the importance and significance of General Secretary To Lam's official visit to Finland?

General Secretary To Lam's official visit to the Republic of Finland is of particularly significant importance, both politically, economically, and in terms of comprehensive foreign relations.

First and foremost, this is the highest-level visit by a Vietnamese leader to Finland, demonstrating Vietnam's deep appreciation for its traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Finland. The visit takes place at a time when the two countries are celebrating 50 years of diplomatic relations (1973-2023), marking a period of sustained cooperation and opening a new phase of collaboration towards the next 50 years.

Secondly, the visit marks a new development in bilateral relations, creating momentum for shaping strategic cooperation in future areas. Both sides are expected to have extensive discussions on cooperation directions in the fields of economics, trade, investment, science and technology, innovation, education and training, environment, and clean energy – areas where Finland has strengths and Vietnam is prioritizing development.

Thirdly, the visit also has strategic significance in strengthening political trust, people-to-people exchanges, and business connections between the two countries, while demonstrating Vietnam's increasingly prominent role and position in the international arena. It is also an opportunity for both sides to reaffirm their commitment to peace, sustainable development, multilateralism, and a rules-based international order.

It can be said that General Secretary To Lam's visit symbolizes a new era of cooperation between Vietnam and Finland — an era of innovation, knowledge, and green development, contributing to elevating the bilateral relationship to a new, deeper, and more comprehensive level.
