The program was attended by 300 families of fallen soldiers, along with more than 1,500 youth union members, young people, and children from Hanoi.
This is an opportunity for the youth of Hanoi to pay tribute to the older generations who dedicated and sacrificed themselves for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. Although they have fallen, their names, ideals, and achievements live on in the hearts of the nation, becoming immortal symbols alongside the country.

The program opened with a stirring dance performance titled "Echoes of the Fatherland," recreating the arduous yet glorious and proud struggle of the past. This also marked the beginning of a profound tribute from the youth of Hanoi to the heroic martyrs and heroic Vietnamese mothers. In the solemn atmosphere of the Historical Museum, the youth members listened to authentic stories from historical witnesses such as musician Truong Quy Hai and journalist Phung Huy Thinh, who had directly experienced the flames of war, sharing stories about the ideals and noble sacrifices of previous generations.

In particular, the program has presented nearly 300 digitally restored portraits of fallen soldiers to their families. This is the result of the "Restoring Photographs of Fallen Soldiers" project implemented by the Hanoi Youth Union since 2024. As of December 12, 2025, the project has completed 659 portraits, in collaboration with the Red Flower Group and Skyline. The black and white photos, tinged with the passage of time, with many only retaining a few details, have been restored, clearly recreating the portraits of the fallen soldiers to be presented to their families. In the coming time, the Hanoi Youth Union plans to continue restoring more than 400 portraits of fallen soldiers to be presented to their families. This is also an effort by the youth of Hanoi to apply technology to bring the fallen soldiers "back" to their families in their original form.

Speaking at the program, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Fatherland Front Committee and Secretary of the Hanoi Youth Union, Nguyen Tien Hung, affirmed that the project to restore the portraits of fallen soldiers is a journey of gratitude, responsibility, and love for the Fatherland. With youthful energy, creativity, and passionate hearts, the youth of Hanoi are undertaking a journey connecting the past with the present, so that the flame of the glorious past will forever be a guiding light for the future. Today's youth of Hanoi pledge to follow in the footsteps of their forefathers, actively volunteering, contributing, building, and protecting a stronger and more prosperous Fatherland; and to continue writing the golden pages of the nation's history in the new era, the era of national progress.
The act of returning portraits to relatives not only contributes to preserving historical memory but also demonstrates the concern of the younger generation in Hanoi for the sacrifices of their ancestors. Many families of fallen soldiers said that receiving restored portraits held special significance. Each photograph given away is not just a portrait; it represents a homecoming, a sacred moment of reunion between deceased loved ones and those who remain.
During the program, many touching stories were shared. Among them, the portrait of martyr Bui Dinh Sau (from Phuc Loc commune, who died in 1979) was handed over to his family on the evening of December 12th, just one day before the family brought his remains from the South back to his hometown. This coincidence felt like a sacred twist of fate, making the moment of receiving the memories of the deceased even more emotional than ever.
The portrait of martyr Dang Xuan Dao (Khuong Dinh ward, died in 1970) was also returned to his family, giving his daughter, who had never met her father and whose only memento was a faded old photograph of them together, the opportunity to clearly see his beloved face after more than half a century.
These moments transformed the program from merely a ceremony of gratitude into a bridge connecting the past and the present, an emotional link bringing history closer to today's young generation.
The program "Journey to Immortality - From Memory to Aspiration" is not only a tribute from the younger generation to their elders, but also a political activity contributing to the education of revolutionary ideals, ethics, and cultural lifestyles for the youth of Hanoi. This is also a practical action to concretize the Resolution of the 17th Hanoi Youth Union Congress from the very beginning of the term, affirming the aspirations of young people in preserving and promoting the fine traditional values of the nation; and at the same time, pioneering the integration of digital transformation and science and technology into the activities of the Youth Union organization, creating a strong ripple effect in the community.
