On the afternoon of July 30, 2024, at the headquarters of the Central External Relations Commission, Comrade Le Hoai Trung, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central External Relations Commission, received the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union (EU), Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell, who is on an official visit to Vietnam.
At the reception, Comrade Le Hoai Trung welcomed Mr. Josep Borrell, the highest-ranking leader of the EU, to visit Vietnam after the European Parliament election in early June; affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to and gives high priority to the comprehensive partnership and cooperation with the European Union, emphasizing that Vietnam and the EU have now established all pillars of cooperation from politics , economics - trade - investment, forestry to defense - security cooperation, the two sides share many similar major interests and extensive people-to-people exchanges. Expressing his delight at the fact that the Vietnam-EU Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation, as well as the relationship between Vietnam and EU member states, continues to develop well, increasingly in-depth and substantive, comrade Le Hoai Trung discussed with Mr. Josep Borrell a number of major directions and measures to expand and improve the effectiveness of cooperation, emphasizing the need to further promote the effectiveness of cooperation within frameworks such as the Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Fair Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), urging the legislatures of the remaining EU member states to soon complete the ratification of the Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and soon remove the yellow card for Vietnam's seafood exports. On this occasion, Comrade Le Hoai Trung thanked the EU leaders and member countries for their sincere condolences and messages of deep condolences on the passing of the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, and thanked Mr. Josep Borrell, on behalf of the EU leaders, for coming to Hanoi to attend the State Funeral of the late General Secretary.
