Speaking at the commemoration ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized that more than 78 years ago, the United Nations was established, reflecting humanity's common goal of a world without war, a world of peace, cooperation, and development.

Forty-six years ago, Vietnam joined the UN, participating in and contributing to the realization of the UN's common goals, just as President Ho Chi Minh had wished in his letter to the President of the first session of the UN General Assembly in 1946.

"The history of Vietnam's formation, struggle, and development has always been linked to the values and principles of the UN, and is part of the mainstream of the international community," the Prime Minister affirmed.

According to the Prime Minister, the journey of nearly eight decades of nation-building and almost 40 years of Doi Moi (Renovation) has witnessed strong transformations in Vietnam. From a country that received aid, today Vietnam is the world's second-largest rice exporter. From a country devastated by decades of war, today Vietnam has made great strides in poverty reduction, achieving the Millennium Development Goals and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
