Vietnam always cares about pioneering policies in digital transformation and green transformation.

On February 15, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha received Mr. Surendra Rosha, co-CEO of Asia- Pacific region of HSBC Bank.

At the reception, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha expressed his impression of HSBC's leadership's commitment to mobilizing financial resources and arranging international capital worth about 12 billion USD for projects responding to climate change and reducing net greenhouse gas emissions to zero in Vietnam.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam is always interested in HSBC Bank's pioneering policy in digital transformation and green transformation. The Vietnamese Government has committed to and implemented many specific tasks in the roadmap to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions to zero and have a fair energy transition.

The Government of Vietnam and the International Partnership Group (IPG) have officially adopted the Political Declaration establishing the Just Energy Transition Partnership with International Partners (JETP). The Political Declaration continues to demonstrate the spirit of cooperation between Vietnam and development partner countries led by the Group of Seven (G7) to realize Vietnam's commitments to the goal of net zero emissions by 2050 and the transition from coal to clean energy.

Accordingly, IPG will mobilize an initial amount of at least 15.5 billion USD in the next 3-5 years, from government capital to promote and facilitate attracting investment capital from banks and businesses in the field of equitable energy transition. HSBC Bank can participate in arranging capital structures, ensuring the effectiveness of these projects.

Appreciating HSBC Bank's pioneering strategy in implementing a fair energy transition, the Deputy Prime Minister hopes that HSBC Bank will become a "credit filter", actively participating in investment projects in green industrial parks and zero-emission factories; reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the fields of transportation, construction, and industrial production; planting, exploiting, and preserving sustainable forests; projects in producing batteries, electric vehicles, and renewable energy; converting coal-fired thermal power investment projects to a more environmentally friendly direction; forming a renewable energy transmission axis in the Asia-Pacific region...

The Deputy Prime Minister also discussed with HSBC leaders the areas that need to be focused on and prioritized in the green and digital transformation process; institutions and policies so that foreign banks and enterprises, including HSBC, can feel secure in investing and doing business in Vietnam.

The Deputy Prime Minister also clarified the necessary technical support for Vietnam to access and harmoniously develop green economy, green energy, and form renewable energy industrial centers... in the coming time.

Thanking the Deputy Prime Minister for taking the time to meet him, Mr. Surendra Rosha said that in 2023, HSBC Bank will actively implement many activities to realize the goals set in the roadmap to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions to zero, digital transformation, green transformation, etc.

In particular, HSBC Bank has worked with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to discuss steps to support businesses in transforming their operations towards a greener direction, implementing a fair energy transition, promoting the development of the carbon credit market, etc.
