At the reception, Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen expressed her honor to assume the responsibility of Vietnamese Ambassador to Ethiopia; respectfully conveyed the regards and invitation to visit Vietnam fromPresident Luong Cuong to President Taye Atske Selassie.
The Ambassador affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship with Ethiopia, and expressed his impression of the socio -economic development achievements that Ethiopia has made in recent times.
On this occasion, the Ambassador emphasized the significance of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Ethiopia (1976-2026), saying that this is an important milestone for the two countries to look back on the past cooperation journey and set out directions for developing relations in the coming time. The Ambassador also shared that in order to promote the implementation of the content of the high-level visit, Vietnam is actively studying the possibility of soon opening a Representative Office here, demonstrating its strong political commitment and desire to increase its presence in the African region - where Ethiopia plays a central role.

Warmly congratulating Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen on his new assignment, President Taye Atske Selassie expressed his belief that the Ambassador will contribute to strongly promoting bilateral relations.
Appreciating the new steps in cooperation between the two countries and welcoming the opening of the first direct flight between Addis Ababa and Hanoi, scheduled to start on July 1, President Taye Atske Selassie emphasized that this is the first direct flight between Vietnam and Africa, opening up great opportunities to promote people-to-people exchanges, trade, investment and tourism between the two regions.

During the discussion, the two sides reviewed and appreciated the significance of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali's official visit to Vietnam in April 2025 - an important milestone in the history of bilateral relations. The visit opened up many new opportunities, creating a strong driving force to promote bilateral cooperation in many fields.
Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen and President Taye Atske Selassie agreed on the need to continue to concretize the agreements reached, especially in the fields of economics, trade, investment, agriculture, science - technology, education and people-to-people exchange. The two sides also agreed that the potential for cooperation between Vietnam and Ethiopia is still very large and needs to be exploited more effectively in the coming time.

At the meeting, the Ambassador affirmed his desire to closely coordinate with Ethiopian authorities to promote friendship and practical cooperation between the two countries.
During the activities in Addis Ababa, Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen also worked with the Thai Ambassador to Kenya and Ethiopia. The two sides shared the regional situation, experiences in diplomatic work and agreed to continue to maintain contact and coordinate in bilateral and multilateral activities.
At all meetings, Ambassador Vu Thanh Huyen received a warm welcome and goodwill, clearly demonstrating the importance of the friendly relationship between the two countries. All sides expressed their determination and efforts to develop the Vietnam-Ethiopia relationship strongly and substantially, bringing practical benefits to the people of both countries.
