The 2025 G20 Summit, themed “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainable Development”, will take place in Johannesburg, the international financial center and famous stock market of South Africa and the world. This is the second consecutive year that Vietnam has been invited to attend the Summit of the Group of 20 leading economies in the world, a strong affirmation of Vietnam’s prestige, position and increasing role.

The G20 Summit focused on four key areas: Strengthening resilience and response to natural disasters, promoting sustainable debt management for low-income countries, mobilizing finance for a just energy transition, and utilizing essential minerals for inclusive and sustainable growth.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and other leaders attended two important discussion sessions of the Summit with the themes: “Sustainable and inclusive economic development - leaving no one behind” and “G20 contributions to a resilient world ”.

At the Plenary Session, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highlighted the motto of “unity for strength - cooperation for benefits - dialogue for trust”; proposed “3 strategic guarantees” to promote inclusive and sustainable growth: Ensuring stability for development in international relations, world politics and global macroeconomics. Ensuring a rules-based multilateral trading system, with the WTO at the center, a balanced, transparent and open global financial system... Ensuring flexible and effective global governance, creating an ecosystem for strong development.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the G20 takes the lead in building a mechanism for international cooperation with mutual respect, seeking solutions to conflicts, creating a favorable environment for development; responding to crises, limiting trade barriers, minimizing supply chain fragmentation; promoting debt conversion initiatives, ensuring global macroeconomic stability. Strengthening cooperation, fighting against politicization of science and trade, supporting developing countries with fair trade policies, harmonizing interests; comprehensively reforming the WTO to operate more actively and effectively.

The Prime Minister called on the G20 and multilateral mechanisms to strengthen dialogue, build a global governance framework that harmonizes the economy, society and environment, the present and the future, and balances interests among economies; and promote cooperation on artificial intelligence, climate change, natural disaster and disease prevention, etc.

The strong message of the Vietnamese Government leader at the Conference was welcomed, agreed upon, and highly appreciated by the countries for speaking "correctly and accurately" about global, national, and comprehensive issues based on practical lessons learned from Vietnam, especially on developing an independent, self-reliant, and resilient economy, focusing on sustainable development, responding to climate change, and eliminating hunger and reducing poverty.

This Summit is an opportunity for Vietnam to continue affirming its consistent foreign policy as a reliable partner of the international community, ready to join hands to solve global issues in the spirit of mutual respect and understanding, contributing to peace, stability and common development of humanity.

The conference adopted a joint statement calling for peace in many countries and regions around the world, as well as measures to protect the global supply of essential minerals, a victory for multilateralism. In this common success, there is a very important, proactive and positive contribution from the Vietnamese high-level delegation.

During his attendance at the G20 Summit, which took place shortly after the highly successful State visit to Vietnam by South African President Ciryl Ramaphosa at the end of October, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the South African President officially announced the upgrading of relations to a Strategic Partnership, a historic milestone in deepening bilateral relations in a practical, effective manner, on the basis of trust.

When Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with President Ciryl Ramaphosa, the South African leader shared that his country always considers Vietnam a close traditional friend and a leading important partner of South Africa in Asia.

The two leaders pledged to continue to further promote economic, trade and investment cooperation, considering this the focus of cooperation between the two countries, striving to soon increase bilateral trade turnover to 4-5 billion USD in the next 2-3 years...

At the Vietnam-South Africa Business Forum, South African Vice President Paul Mashatile warmly welcomed and informed that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation were witnessing the "Ubuntu Spirit" - a profound humanistic philosophy of solidarity, mutual love and mutual assistance that southern African countries are very proud of (similar to the spirit of great solidarity, "national love and compatriotism" of the Vietnamese people).

The Vice President stressed that this is a key time for the business communities of the two countries to strengthen cooperation and promote economic, trade and investment exchanges. The issue is the need to build “bridges across the border between the two countries”.

The two Governments are ready to actively support the business communities of the two countries. We saw a high consensus from Government officials to the business communities of the two countries at the Forum: In the context of globalization, green transformation and digital transformation that are reshaping the world's development order, Vietnam and South Africa have many favorable conditions to complement each other, promote their own strengths, and aim for sustainable and self-reliant growth.

For his part, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that Vietnam and South Africa have a very good political relationship: They have both fought for national liberation and expressed their desire for freedom. The Prime Minister called on Vietnamese enterprises to invest in agricultural production in South Africa, especially rice and other products that South Africa is importing, to meet domestic demand and export to the world. Petrovietnam and EVN corporations can invest in South Africa in the fields of oil and gas exploitation and processing, renewable energy, etc.

Promoting the intelligence of the two countries' people, along with the close cooperation mechanism, the two countries' development aspirations, and the enterprises' aspirations for contribution, the two sides will exploit to the maximum, turn different potentials, outstanding opportunities, competitive advantages, and turn natural resources into products with higher added value and more value, contributing to rapid and sustainable development.

Therefore, the Prime Minister called on the business communities of the two countries to strengthen solidarity, cooperation, investment, support and mutual assistance to "win together, develop together and enjoy happiness together".

The working trip to attend the G20 Summit in South Africa by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation was extremely successful.

This working trip continues to demonstrate that Vietnam is always an active, dynamic and responsible member of the international community; at the same time, it contributes to the overall success of the entire working trip to Kuwait, Algeria and South Africa with historic milestone events when Vietnam and the three countries officially announced the upgrading of bilateral relations to Strategic Partnership, opening up new horizons of cooperation with bright prospects...
