Vietnam-Türkiye sign defense cooperation agreement, marking an important development

(Chinhphu.vn) - The signing of the Agreement on defense cooperation marks an important development in defense relations between Vietnam and Türkiye.

Vietnam attends Türkiye International Defense Industry Exhibition

At the invitation of the Turkish Ministry of National Defense, a high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense led by Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense, attended the International Defense Industry Exhibition Türkiye 2025 (IDEF-2025) in Istanbul.

IDEF is a prestigious defense industry exhibition, held every two years. The exhibition attracts the attention of representatives of the Government , Ministry of Defense, Military of countries, and major defense industry corporations around the world.

IDEF-2025 brings together defense industry companies, military officials, experts and defense stakeholders to showcase cutting-edge technologies and explore cooperation opportunities.

The exhibition displays many products and services in the defense sector such as naval, air, and army systems, military equipment, security, weapons, ammunition, and defense electronics.

The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense's participation in this event demonstrates its interest in promoting international cooperation in the defense industry. At the same time, it affirms that Vietnam always supports the policy of enhancing international exchanges and cooperation on the basis of equality, mutual benefit, compliance with Vietnamese law and international commitments.

Türkiye wishes to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation with Vietnam

On July 23, within the framework of his working visit to Türkiye, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense, led a delegation of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense to meet with Turkish Minister of Defense Yasar Guler.

Minister Yasar Guler welcomed the delegation to visit and work in Türkiye, expressing his delight at the results of cooperation between the two countries in general and the two Defense Ministries in particular over the past time.

Minister Guler thanked the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense for sending a high-level delegation to attend the International Defense Industry Exhibition - IDEF 2025.

Deputy Minister Hoang Xuan Chien and Mr. Musa Heybet signed the Agreement between the two countries' Defense Ministries.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien thanked the leaders of the Turkish Ministry of Defense for their warm welcome and highly appreciated the scale and professionalism in the organization of the IDEF 2025 Exhibition.

The General welcomed Turkish defense industry enterprises and establishments to display their products at the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition scheduled to be held in late 2026.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien emphasized that after the official visit to Türkiye by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in November 2023, the relationship between the two countries has increasingly developed, creating a solid foundation to bring bilateral defense cooperation to a new level.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien presented a letter from General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense of Vietnam, inviting Minister Yasar Guler to visit Vietnam in the near future.

He affirmed that the decision of the two countries' Defense Ministries to send permanent Defense Attaches to each country will contribute to promoting increasingly practical and in-depth defense cooperation.

Vietnam is ready to create favorable conditions for Türkiye to deploy a Defense Attaché Office in Vietnam as soon as possible.

Vietnam is very interested in international cooperation in the field of defense industry. The Government and the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam always create conditions to enhance international exchanges and cooperation in this field according to the principles of equality, mutual benefit, respect for Vietnamese law and other international commitments.

Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien suggested that the two sides study and strengthen cooperation in areas such as delegation exchanges, training, overcoming the consequences of post-war bombs and mines, defense industry, United Nations peacekeeping, cyber security and responding to non-traditional challenges.

Sharing the content mentioned by Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler expressed his desire to strengthen bilateral defense cooperation with Vietnam.

Türkiye is ready to promote delegation exchanges at all levels, human resource training, and cooperation in the fields of defense industry, navy, and army. Regarding defense industry cooperation, Türkiye is ready to coordinate with Vietnam in accordance with the needs and capabilities of each side.

On the same day, Deputy Minister Hoang Xuan Chien and Deputy Minister Musa Heybet signed an Agreement between the Ministry of National Defense of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Türkiye on defense cooperation.

The signing of the Agreement on Defense Cooperation marks an important step forward in the defense relationship between the two countries, creating a framework to promote cooperation in delegation exchanges at all levels, sharing strategic issues of mutual concern, training, defense industry, United Nations peacekeeping and other areas as agreed by the two sides.
