Vietnam and the US officially negotiate tariffs for the second time

(Dan Tri) - From May 19 to 22, in Washington DC (USA), Vietnam and the US began the second negotiation sessions of the bilateral agreement on reciprocal trade between the two countries.

According to information from the Ministry of Industry and Trade , from May 19 to May 22 in Washington DC, USA, the Vietnamese negotiation delegation led by Minister of Industry and Trade, Head of the Government Negotiation Delegation Nguyen Hong Dien began negotiation sessions with the US side.

The negotiating delegation also included representatives of ministries and branches including: Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Justice and State Bank.

On May 19 (local time, ie May 19 and May 20 Hanoi time), the first day of the negotiation session, the Vietnamese and US negotiating delegations spent time discussing a comprehensive approach to resolving fundamental issues of mutual concern and speeding up the negotiation process.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the two sides also discussed openly, frankly and constructively on issues of mutual concern in order to clarify the contents of the Agreement's text and provide each other with information on each side's current policies, thereby providing a basis for implementing the next steps.

Previously, on May 16, in Jeju (South Korea), Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien and US Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer had the first direct ministerial-level negotiation session on the Reciprocal Trade Agreement between the two countries.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade said the negotiation session took place in a frank and constructive spirit, demonstrating the great efforts of both sides in building a stable economic, trade and investment relationship, harmonizing interests, commensurate with the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Negotiations are also based on respect for sovereignty, autonomy, political institutions, balance of interests and compliance with international law and the development level of each country.

On the same day, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien worked with Westinghouse Corporation - one of the world's leading corporations in nuclear power technology. The two sides agreed to share information and sign an MOU between Westinghouse and the Vietnam National Industry and Energy Group (Petrovietnam) in the field of nuclear power development.

The two sides also agreed to continue cooperation in key areas such as developing energy infrastructure investment models (PPP, BOT), technology transfer, training and developing technical human resources for the nuclear power industry.
