Vietjet appoints Mr. Philipp Rösler, former German vice chancellor, to its board of directors

Mr. Philipp Rösler - former Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economy and Technology of Germany, has just been appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company.

Information from Vietjet said that Mr. Philipp Rösler - who has held many important positions at large corporations around the world - will accompany the airline in the phase of accelerating the expansion of its flight network and developing its wide-body fleet in the new decade.

Who is Mr. Philipp Rösler?

Mr. Rösler was born in 1973 in Vietnam and was adopted by a German couple as a child. He served as Minister of Health, then Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economics and Technology of the Federal Republic of Germany, before leaving politics more than 10 years ago to move into international business.

Before joining Vietjet, he was an independent member of the board of directors of Vietravel Airlines from October 2023.

At this airline, Mr. Rösler serves as a strategic advisor, promoting international cooperation and connecting investors in Europe and Asia-Pacific regions.

Along with the decision to add senior personnel, Vietjet also dismissed four members of the board of directors, including Mr. Donal Boylan, Mr. Luu Duc Khanh, Mr. Chu Viet Cuong and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hung.

These members will transition to the role of founding board members and advisors to the company.

Broaden your horizons, invest long term

Vietjet said it is implementing a plan to develop its wide-body fleet, aiming to open more long-haul routes to Europe and increase its presence in the Asia-Pacific region.

Recently, the airline signed a contract to purchase 20 Airbus A330-900 aircraft, a new generation wide-body aircraft, to serve its long-term development strategy.

By the end of the first quarter of 2025, Vietjet had received 2 more aircraft, bringing the total to 106, becoming the airline with the youngest fleet in the region.

During the quarter, the airline transported more than 6.87 million passengers and operated nearly 38,700 flights, up 9% and 12% respectively over the same period last year. The seat utilization rate reached 87% and technical reliability reached 99.72%.

Consolidated revenue in the first quarter reached VND 17,952 billion, pre-tax profit reached VND 836 billion - equivalent to 38% of the annual plan of VND 2,200 billion.

In 2025, Vietjet targets revenue of VND81,674 billion and pre-tax profit of VND2,200 billion, up 13% and 21% respectively over the previous year.

Vietjet is currently operating 137 routes, including 97 international routes, continuing to affirm its globalization strategy and exporting its low-cost airline model to the world.
