VN-Index breaks 4 consecutive sessions of decline

Cash flow focused on disbursement into banking and pharmaceutical groups, helping VN-Index increase 1.36 points compared to the reference, closing at 1,281 points, thereby breaking the 4-session losing streak.

VN-Index opened today's trading session, July 16, in a state of excitement and at one point increased by nearly 12 points compared to the reference, to 1,291 points. In the minutes before the matching session to determine the closing price (ATC), the index reversed below the reference. However, this development only lasted for a moment when the demand for disbursement at low prices immediately appeared to pull the index up. VN-Index closed at 1,281.18 points, up 1.36 points compared to the reference and breaking the previous 4-session decline streak.

The market gained points but the breadth was relatively balanced with 211 stocks gaining and 215 stocks falling. The large-cap basket contributed 15 stocks gaining, while the number of stocks falling was 10.

Banking stocks became the main driving force in today's session. Of the 10 stocks with the most positive impact on the market, 6 were in this group. Specifically, BID led the list when it increased by 1.29% compared to the reference price, to 47,150 VND. Next, VCB increased by 0.46% to 87,900 VND, CTG increased by 1.25% to 32,500 VND, MBB increased by 2.17% to 23,550 VND, ACB increased by 0.63% to 24,100 VND, HDB increased by 1.43% to 24,750 VND.

Pharmaceutical stocks also recorded a significant improvement in today's trading session when most of them closed above the reference price and up to 3 stocks hit the ceiling price. Specifically, the stocks that hit the ceiling price were DHG increasing to 120,500 VND, OPC to 25,550 VND and IMP to 93,400 VND.

Green also dominated the aviation stocks. Specifically, SGN increased by 0.5% to VND85,600 today, VJC increased by 1.2% to VND105,500, SAS increased by 1.8% to VND34,200 and VTR increased by 2.5% to VND25,000. However, HVN reversed the market trend when it hit the floor price of VND31,250 and became the stock with the most negative impact on the VN-Index.

The real estate group also recorded less exciting transactions. Specifically, VHM decreased by 0.26% to VND37,900, VIC decreased by 0.73% to VND41,050, PDR decreased by 3.24% to VND22,400 and NVL decreased by 4.55% to VND12,600.

Market liquidity continued to improve compared to the first session of the week when more than 684 million shares were traded, an increase of about 111 million shares compared to the previous session. The trading value accordingly reached VND 16,414 billion, an increase of VND 2,179 billion compared to yesterday's session. The large-cap basket contributed VND 6,904 billion to liquidity, equivalent to more than 237 million shares successfully matched.

MBB ranked first in terms of transaction value with nearly VND585 billion, equivalent to 24.8 million shares changed hands. The following stocks were FPT with more than VND533 billion (equivalent to 4 million shares) and GEX with more than VND498 billion (equivalent to 21 million shares).

After a net selling session of more than VND1,600 billion, foreign investors reduced the selling pressure when the net value was only VND235 billion. Specifically, foreign investors sold about 53 million shares, equivalent to a transaction value of approximately VND1,713 billion, while only disbursing VND1,477 billion to buy more than 40 million shares.

MWG was under the strongest selling pressure from foreign investors with a net value of nearly VND140 billion, followed by TCB with more than VND80 billion and MSN with more than VND76 billion. On the contrary, foreign cash flow focused on disbursing into NLG shares with a net value of approximately VND81 billion. FPT ranked next with a net withdrawal of nearly VND47 billion, followed by TPB with more than VND36 billion.
