Realized FDI capital in Vietnam highest in 5 years

According to the General Statistics Office (Ministry of Planning and Investment), the total registered FDI capital in Vietnam as of November 20, including newly registered capital, adjusted registered capital, and capital contribution and share purchase value of foreign investors, reached nearly 28.85 billion USD, an increase of 14.8% over the same period last year.

Newly registered capital included 2,865 licensed projects with registered capital reaching 16.41 billion USD, up 58.1% over the same period last year in terms of number of projects and 42.4% in terms of registered capital.

Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry was granted the largest new FDI license with registered capital reaching 14.26 billion USD, accounting for 86.9% of the total newly registered capital; real estate business activities reached 858.4 million USD, accounting for 5.2%; the remaining industries reached 1.3 billion USD, accounting for 7.9%.

Among 70 countries and territories with newly licensed investment projects in Vietnam in the first 11 months of 2023, Singapore is the largest investor with 3.31 billion USD, accounting for 20.2% of the total newly registered capital.

FDI capital realized in Vietnam in 11 months of 2023 is estimated at 20.25 billion USD

Adjusted registered capital: 1,152 licensed projects from previous years registered to adjust investment capital to increase by 6.47 billion USD, down 32.1% over the same period last year.

Foreign investors registered to contribute capital and purchase shares with 3,166 times, with a total capital contribution value of 5.97 billion USD, up 46.4% over the same period last year.

Notably, the representative of the General Statistics Office said that the FDI capital realized in Vietnam in the first 11 months of 2023 is estimated at 20.25 billion USD, up 2.9% over the same period last year. This is the highest FDI capital realized in 11 months in the past 5 years.

Of which, the processing and manufacturing industry reached 16.67 billion USD, accounting for 82.3% of total realized FDI capital; production and distribution of electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning reached 1.21 billion USD, accounting for 6%; real estate business activities reached 982.6 million USD, accounting for 4.9%.

Vietnam's overseas investment in the first 11 months of 2023 had 117 projects newly granted investment certificates with a total capital of Vietnam's side of 257.3 million USD, down 35% over the same period last year; there were 24 projects with capital adjustment with an increase of 137.7 million USD, 1.8 times.

In total, Vietnam's total investment capital abroad (newly granted and adjusted capital) reached 395 million USD, down 16.7% over the same period last year. In the first 11 months of 2023, 26 countries and territories received investment from Vietnam; of which Canada was the leading country with 150.3 million USD, accounting for 38% of total investment capital.
