The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship officially kicked off from July 15 to 29 in Indonesia. This is considered an important tournament for the football development of countries in the Southeast Asian region.
For Vietnamese football, the tournament is a useful practice for coach Kim Sang Sik and his team to prepare for important tournaments such as the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers and the 33rd SEA Games.
The 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship features 10 teams, divided into three groups. Group A includes Brunei, host Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. Group B includes Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam. Group C includes Myanmar, Thailand and Timor Leste.
In the group stage, the teams compete in a round robin to select the top 3 teams and the second-placed team with the best results to advance to the semi-finals.
According to the match schedule, the U23 Vietnam team will meet Laos (July 19) and Cambodia (July 22). At the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the U23 teams of Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand are the top candidates for the championship.
