At the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Thongloun Sisoulith and his wife, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam, his wife and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation paid a State visit to Laos, attended the 50th National Day Celebration of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, and co-chaired the High-level Meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party from December 1 to 2.

Taking place at a significant time when the brotherly country of Laos celebrates the 50th anniversary of its National Day - a historical milestone marking half a century of national construction and development, General Secretary To Lam's visit demonstrates the respect, deep concern, and close ties between the senior leaders of the two Parties and two countries, as well as the strong support for the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith personally. The visit sends a message about Vietnam's consistent policy of always giving the highest priority to the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation with Laos.

The Vietnam-Laos relationship was painstakingly built by President Ho Chi Minh, President Kaysone Phomvihane and President Souphanouvong, and preserved and nurtured by generations of leaders and people of the two countries with sweat, effort, intelligence and even blood. Tested through the years of fighting side by side to defeat the enemy, regain independence and freedom for the nation, and in the later period of nation building, the pure and loyal solidarity between Laos and Vietnam has become a solid and unshakable foundation for the bilateral relationship to continue to develop strongly.

Over the past time, the political relationship and strategic trust between the two countries have continued to be strengthened. Vietnam and Laos have maintained the exchange of high-level delegations and all levels in many forms, and have successfully organized important foreign affairs activities between senior leaders of the two Parties and the two States. The high-level meeting between the two Parties is the most important cooperation mechanism, playing a core role in guiding the relationship between the two countries. From the fourth quarter of 2024 to now, General Secretary To Lam and General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith have met five times and exchanged many in-depth, comprehensive and substantive contents on core issues to deepen the close relationship between the two Parties and the two countries.

Based on the deep sharing and loyal, pure solidarity between the two Parties, two States and peoples, Vietnam and Laos have achieved many good cooperative results in recent times. Economic, trade and investment cooperation continues to have positive changes. Bilateral trade turnover in the first 10 months of 2025 is estimated at 2.6 billion USD, up 50.41% over the same period in 2024. The two sides strive to increase two-way trade turnover to 5 billion USD in the coming years. Many Vietnamese investment projects in Laos are operating effectively, contributing positively to Laos' socio-economic development, creating jobs, increasing income for thousands of workers and supplementing the budget, especially in the fields of telecommunications, banking, energy, mining, rubber and food processing.

Besides the economy, defense-security cooperation continues to have new developments, going into depth and effectiveness, being an important pillar in the Vietnam-Laos relationship. The two countries closely coordinate and support each other in maintaining political stability, ensuring national defense, security and social order and safety. In addition, cooperation in the fields of culture, education, science and technology, etc. has also recorded positive changes.

As two neighboring countries with mountains and rivers connected by a strip of land, Vietnam and Laos have gone through a long journey together, where the two countries have always "worked together" from the struggle for national independence to the process of building and developing the country later. That journey is being continued by generations of leaders and people of the two countries, becoming a rare example of the strong, loyal, pure and effective bond between the two peoples who have always stood side by side in the struggle for independence, freedom and social progress.

In that context, the State visit of General Secretary To Lam, his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation to Laos, attending the 50th National Day Celebration of the Lao People's Democratic Republic; and co-chairing the High-Level Meeting between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lao People's Revolutionary Party contributed to consolidating political trust, enhancing comprehensive cooperation and opening up new directions for cooperation between the two countries in the new era. That will be a solid foundation for the two peoples to continue to jointly cultivate the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation to develop more and more sustainably, lasting forever over the years.
