The Vietnam Youth Volunteer Force was established on July 15, 1950, the predecessor of the Central Youth Volunteer Force, with 225 initial cadres and members. They were idealistic young men and women, coming from many different regions, carrying the aspiration to contribute to protecting the Fatherland and were mobilized by the Central Youth Union and the Central Standing Committee of the Vietnam National Salvation Youth Union. During the two resistance wars against France and the US, the Youth Volunteer Force did not fear hardships and dangers, staying on the front lines, ensuring transportation, logistics, first aid, digging tunnels... making an important contribution to the glorious feats of arms of the nation.
A time of fire and flowers
Lang Son is a resilient frontier land during the resistance war, and is also the place that marked the footsteps and silent dedication of many generations of Youth Volunteers. They put aside their youth, devoted their youth to the mountains and forests or dangerous roads... to protect every inch of their homeland, contributing to writing the shining pages of revolutionary heroism.
Former Youth Volunteer Dang Thi Hieu (born in 1958), Lien Hoa village, Gia Cat commune, Cao Loc district, emotionally shared: I volunteered to join the Youth Volunteer Force in 1973 and was assigned to Company 10, General Team 341. Every day, our team worked together to build roads or bridges to ensure smooth traffic routes in the districts: Bac Son, Binh Gia, Cao Loc... Although the task was very hard, we had to work day and night, even some days we only slept about 5 hours, but everyone was excited and enthusiastic about working because we could contribute to the Fatherland.
Former Youth Volunteer Bui Thi Sinh (born in 1948), Hung Vu commune, Bac Son district said: In response to the call of the Fatherland, in 1968, I volunteered to join the Youth Volunteer Force and was assigned to Unit N73, Construction Department 67 in Quang Binh province. My teammates and I were tasked with ensuring the smoothness of the roads so that vehicles could promptly transport resources and equipment to the southern battlefield. In 1972, due to the impact of bomb pressure during the road opening process, I became deaf in both ears. Although it was so difficult, for us, the time serving on the battlefield was the most beautiful, memorable and proud youth of each person.
These are just two of more than 4,600 former Youth Volunteers of the province who did not hesitate to sacrifice their youth, experienced many hardships, pains and losses to contribute to and protect the Fatherland. The reality of fighting to protect the Fatherland has trained generations of Youth Volunteers of Lang Son in courage, loyalty, indomitable spirit and creativity, making many glorious achievements in the cause of national liberation, contributing to the heroic tradition of the Vietnamese Youth Volunteers.
Continue the glorious history
After 75 years of proud tradition, former Youth Volunteers across the province always remind themselves to continue to dedicate themselves and contribute to the cause of innovation of their homeland and country, continuing to be a shining example in all aspects for today's young generation to follow.
