(Baoquangngai.vn)- Starting from a small tailor shop in the countryside, Ms. Le Thi Thuy Dung (45 years old), in Tinh Dong commune (Son Tinh) has established a facility specializing in sewing school uniforms, operating quite effectively. Her efforts have helped improve her family's economy and contributed to creating regular jobs for many workers in difficult circumstances in the locality.
Passionate about the job
Arriving at Mrs. Dung’s house in Dong Nhon Bac village, from the yard, one can hear the rumbling sound of sewing machines through the nimble hand movements and steady foot pedaling of the workers. Around the house, which is also a sewing workshop, are hung all kinds of ready-made uniforms, such as: trousers, shirts, jackets, skirts… for students.
Ms. Dung shared that summer vacation is also the time when she and her employees are busiest, trying to complete orders in time to serve the children before the new school year begins. Although tired and hard, everyone is excited, ensuring that orders are delivered on schedule.
Many students come to the tailor shop of Ms. Le Thi Thuy Dung (45 years old), in Dong Nhon Bac village, Tinh Dong commune to have their clothes made. |
Talking about her chance to become a tailor, Ms. Dung said that she was born into a poor family with many children. After finishing secondary school, she went to Quang Ngai City to learn a trade. Realizing that she had a talent for tailoring, at the age of 18, she decided to choose this profession to establish herself and start a career; opening a small tailor shop at home, sewing clothes for all ages, from the elderly to children.
In the early days of her career, she encountered many difficulties. Her skills were limited, so she had few customers and her income was just enough to cover her living expenses. However, with her determination to pursue her passion, her efforts to research and learn; always staying ahead of the trend with new and fashionable designs, her skills were increasingly improved. Many diverse and rich designs, from skirts, dresses, shirts, windbreakers to uniforms of organizations, individuals, schools, etc., were always prioritized by customers to order at the shop.

Gradually, her professionalism and responsibility for the job have brought Ms. Dung many close relationships with customers. She has been able to access many contracts to sew uniforms for students in schools in the province, and orders from clothing retailers in traditional markets.
Although the profits from the first contracts were not high, they were enough to kindle the dream of a rural woman. She thought of developing a modern sewing line, focusing on a few specific products, improving professionalism, and affirming her name in the profession. And then, about 5 years ago, that dream became a reality. A large-scale tailoring shop specializing in sewing school uniforms was established. In order for the tailoring shop to operate effectively, she also borrowed more capital from banks, invested in sewing machines, modern equipment, and improved the skills of her workers.
Many young people in difficult circumstances are always taught vocational skills and given opportunities to work by Ms. Dung. |
According to Ms. Dung, school uniforms not only bring beauty to students but also contribute to building and promoting the image of the school; creating solidarity, building close and intimate relationships between students and schools. Therefore, more and more units and schools choose them. In addition to the mandatory uniforms according to student regulations, many schools also order tailoring according to the identity and traditional culture of each ethnic group. These are advantages for developing the profession. However, facing the competition of the garment industry, she is forced to make efforts every day so that the facility always has its own position. For her, the most important thing is still the fabric and seam must be guaranteed to create prestige for the product in the market.
Wholeheartedly for women in need
After deducting expenses, the tailor shop now brings Ms. Dung tens of millions of dong each month. This source of income not only helps her improve her family's economy and send her children to college, but also creates jobs for about 5 regular workers, with salaries ranging from 5 to 6 million dong each month.
In particular, she always cares about, creates job opportunities, and teaches vocational skills to many young women in difficult circumstances. Among them, there is Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Hang (35 years old), who lives in the same village.
“My family’s situation is very difficult. My husband has had kidney failure for 12 years. I have to support the whole family by myself, taking care of my sick husband and raising a small child. Seeing that my family’s life is so difficult, Mrs. Dung has created the most favorable conditions for me to work regularly, having a stable income, being close to home, convenient for taking care of my husband and taking my child to school. Understanding Mrs. Dung’s heart, I also try to work hard, working overtime regularly so that the tailor shop can develop further,” Ms. Hang shared.

According to the President of the Women's Union of Tinh Dong Commune, Truong Thi Kieu, Ms. Dung had to go through many difficult and arduous stages in the process of developing the tailor shop. However, with her own will and determination, she has built a career, creating jobs for many rural workers; contributing to the poverty reduction work of the locality. Besides, she also actively contributed to social security work, bringing the women's movement in the commune to develop more and more. Her efforts have been contributing to enhancing the position and role of women in the current period; worthy of being a shining example for local women to learn and follow.
