(CPV) – An attack at a bar in Guanajuato state, central Mexico, left 10 people dead and 5 others injured.
The incident occurred at around 11 p.m. (local time) on March 12 at the bar "El Estadio" when a group of armed men rushed in and opened fire on customers and staff of the bar.
Local officials said that among the dead, seven were men and three were women.
Guanajuato, a thriving industrial region and home to some of Mexico's most popular tourist attractions, has become the country's bloodiest state. Two gangs, the Santa Rosa de Lima and the Jalisco Nueva Generacion, are battling for territory there. They are involved in drug trafficking and fuel theft.
In December 2022, a similar incident occurred at a bar in the city of Irapuato, Guanajuato state, when gunmen opened fire on customers and employees. At least six men and six women were killed and three others were injured, the city government said in a statement. It was the second mass shooting in Guanajuato in less than a month. In September 2022, armed attackers killed 10 people at a pool hall in the state's Tarimoro municipality./.
