On October 11, Hanoi University of Science and Technology celebrated the 65th anniversary of establishment and development of Thermal Engineering - Faculty of Thermal Energy and the 25th anniversary of establishment of the Institute of Energy Technology.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Quyet Thang, Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the development of the Faculty of Thermal Energy and the Institute of Energy Technology is a testament to the strategic vision of Hanoi University of Science and Technology in two key tasks: Training and research, aiming to create highly applicable results, directly serving society and industry.

The current development philosophy of Hanoi University of Science and Technology is expressed in the two words "talent" and "practical combat", reflecting the mission of training high-quality human resources, integrating internationally and being ready to meet the requirements of modern industry.

The school focuses on developing three groups of talents: Young scientists - students with aspirations to research, become lecturers, doctors, professors; technology experts - people who master high technology, closely connect with businesses, develop applicable products; and innovative startups - students with aspirations and capacity to become technology entrepreneurs, contributing to promoting the knowledge economy .

Currently, Hanoi University of Science and Technology is implementing a development project until 2030, striving to become one of the leading educational institutions in Asia, with majors in the top 100 in the world.

In particular, the energy and energy technology sector is identified as a strategic pillar, associated with Resolution No. 70-NQ/TW dated August 20, 2025 of the Politburo on ensuring national energy security until 2030, with a vision to 2045, and Vietnam's commitment to carbon neutrality.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Dang Tran Tho, Director of the Institute of Energy Technology, from the first steps up to now, the institute has chaired and participated in hundreds of scientific and technological topics and projects at the state, ministerial, industry and enterprise levels, making an important contribution to the country's industrialization and modernization.

The research results are applied in many key economic sectors of the country such as in the field of processing technology, preserving agricultural, forestry and fishery products; treating waste, rubber, nylon, plastic and garbage to process into environmentally friendly fuel and energy...

Not only that, the institute is also proud to have dozens of patents, national science and technology awards and especially the maturity of thousands of engineers, hundreds of masters and dozens of doctors in the industry.

The Institute has identified development pillars such as: Research and application of new energy technologies, hydrogen technology, energy storage, use of AI and digitalization to optimally operate energy consumption and production systems...

Associate Professor, Dr. Truong Hoanh Son, Principal of the School of Mechanical Engineering (Hanoi University of Science and Technology) shared that in 65 glorious years, from a major training thermal power engineers, the thermal engineering industry has continuously developed and expanded strategic fields such as: Renewable energy, efficient use of energy, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable cooling, waste heat treatment... contributing significantly to the green transformation and implementation of Vietnam's Net Zero commitment by 2050.

Up to now, the industry has trained more than 4,600 engineers, bachelors; hundreds of masters and doctors; many of whom have become leading experts in their fields, holding leadership positions in ministries, departments, and large corporations at home and abroad.

Many lecturers of the industry have achieved noble titles of the State such as: Ho Chi Minh Prize for Science and Technology; VIFOTEC Prize...

In addition, the entrance exam results of the industry have far exceeded the set target, the quality of the incoming students has been improved. The rate of students continuing to study the specialized Engineering program is 56%, the highest in the School of Mechanical Engineering.

Revenue from business and science and technology cooperation accounts for over 60% of the total science and technology revenue of the whole school. Many high-quality international publications and patents and useful solutions have been recognized…

In the coming time, the Thermal Engineering - Thermal Energy Department will continue to make efforts to implement the Central's strategic orientations such as: Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science and technology development and digital transformation; Resolution 71-NQ/TW on fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training; The Prime Minister's Decision approving the Project to develop Hanoi University of Science and Technology into the group of leading educational institutions in Asia...

At the ceremony, to recognize and honor the great contributions of generations of teachers, the Organizing Committee presented a symbol of gratitude to teachers who have made many contributions to the school and the industry.
