Building a landslide prevention project with a budget of over 31,000 billion VND

On March 3, according to Thanh Nien reporter's source, Ca Mau province is developing a project "Preventing coastal and riverbank erosion in the period of 2021 - 2025 with a vision to 2030 in the province". The project shows that it will invest in building 177 works to prevent riverbank and coastal erosion, with a budget of over 31,000 billion VND.

Accordingly, the project's objective is to investigate, evaluate, and update the database on coastal and riverbank erosion, striving to basically complete the work of updating the status of coastal and riverbank erosion on Webgis maps by 2025; improve the capacity for warning, forecasting, monitoring erosion and managing riverbanks and coastlines. At the same time, striving by 2025, coastal and riverside residential areas in areas at risk of erosion will be promptly warned and instructed on response skills when erosion occurs; strictly manage the construction of works and houses in riverside and coastal areas, striving to complete 90% of the relocation of households from areas at high risk of erosion by 2030.

The project also points out that Ca Mau needs to invest in building projects to overcome landslides that directly affect the safety of residents, coastal infrastructure, and coastal protection forests; invest in building sea dykes combined with roads, preventing high tides, wave breakers, preventing landslides, and developing land funds; invest in building anti-landslide projects combined with afforestation to restore mangrove forests, protect coastal areas, contribute to protecting the ecological environment, creating livelihoods for people, and exploiting carbon credits; build river regulation projects in key areas, estuaries, and coastal areas, etc.

In particular, the project will invest in the construction of 177 works to prevent riverbank and coastal erosion, with a budget of over VND 31,000 billion. Of which, in the 2021 - 2025 period, 30 works will be invested in, with a budget of over VND 6,000 billion; in the 2026 - 2030 period, 147 works will be invested in, with a budget of over VND 24,000 billion.

It is known that the above project is implemented by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of the province under the guidance of the Southern Institute of Water Resources.
